People pointing out that Vance used to criticize Trump like it’s some hilarious own are missing the point. Trump LOVES that Vance had to eat his own words and suck up to him. He wants people who won’t stand up to him like Krebs, Barr, and even Pence.

Hard to express how depressing it is to see ppl on the left push the conspiracy theory that the Trump assassination was a false flag especially because this falls apart with 10s of reasoning. As if we didn’t spend the last 8 yrs ridiculing the alt-right for this exact thing. We’re all insane now.

Not to pat myself on the back all smug-like, but when I started working in my dept of 25 ppl, there were 2 women, including me. I was the only coder, the other was a PM. Since then I’ve personally hired 3 additional women programmers, both POC.

Sketchiest ride I’ve ever had was when the Uber driver took one look at me and said ‘Can I ask you a question?’ then started talking about penises and blow jobs. When he dropped me off he said ‘I’m coming up for a blow job.’ I was so scared, I ran inside, closed the curtains and laid on the floor.

Not sure if everyone is aware of the film National Anthem, out in theaters now. It takes place at a ranch for LGBTQ folx in New Mexico. It’s a love story, and a story of sexual awakening which centers queer ppl and where (spoiler alert) no one dies. It’s not an obscure film, I saw it at an AMC!

Whatever you think of the ‘content moderation is hard’ post, it’s hard to take this place seriously when one of the top responses with ~1k likes was ‘No, tech CEOs are just IDIOTS!’ Look tech is super annoying, but if your takeaway is tech CEOs are uniquely stupid I genuinely don’t know what to say.

If Jamelle Bouie is successfully bullied off this site, I think that would be it for me here. Not that I’m a special fan, but I’m tired of opening this app to see we’ve harassed another POC, woman, or member of the queer community off this site. I left Twitter to get away from that.

Earned the ‘random emotional support’ badge of womanhood today. Coworker is going through difficult times in their personal life and all of my normally hard-ass colleagues suddenly stared at the ground with their hands in their pockets. ‘Could you talk to them Melissa? I’m not good at this stuff.’

The thing that made me realize big tech is irreparably broken was @zitron.bsky.social’s story about Zuck making FB purposefully harder to use because ppl stayed on the site longer, even if it meant a more negative experience. Big tech has always sucked but I thought they’d look out for themselves.

One of the joys of BlueSky is, when you see someone complaining about one of the larger accounts on this site, trying to figure out if they’ve done or said something specifically offensive, or if the poster is just being a crank.

I have to say the example of French political parties from the far left through the center and even center-right banding together to defeat far-right fascism is incredibly heartening. I hope we can do the same here.

My hope for the trans community is that as time passes and the numbers level off (rising # seen as a threat), and any wave of detransitioners fails to materialize, ppl will no longer be threatened by our perceived newness, and understand it’s not a harmful fad.

I spoke to @stokel.bsky.social for Digital Frontier on why ppl keep using X, which I’m posting on BSky because I mostly hate X. My suggestions: 1. Inertia - It’s effort to move 2. Drama - Is BSky crazy? Yes. It can’t match X 3. Timeliness - BSky, Mastodon, Threads can’t quite match.

Sure the SCOTUS decision seems bad, but imagine you really need to get to work and some jerk is looking at his phone, driving 55 on the interstate. With immunity, you’d be free to shoot him because you’re on your way to your job.

Sure it’s hard making all these quality skeets, but it’s worth it for that special sense of joy I get to check out a new follower’s account and see all of their posts are marked as spam.

I have 50/50 custody of kids and am a single parent so when I don’t have them in summer, I: Finish the week’s work and plan for next, live on $5/day, turn in schoolwork ahead of time. When I have them: my coworkers assume I’m out of office, deadlines are missed, and I somehow spend $75/day on food.

I’ve been enjoying the Discover feed of late, but seeing Two+ day old hot takes on the debate still on the timeline is getting a little annoying.
