If I owned a detective agency like Maddie Hayes and every week I did detective work that directly led to people being murdered, I would simply stop solving mysteries

This paper from my 3rd grader’s end-of-year stack started quite an editor rant (SAID IS PERFECTLY FINE AND FORCING YOURSELF TO USE OTHER DIALOGUE TAGS CAN BE EXTREMELY DISTRACTING BUT IF YOUR TEACHER SAYS TO DO THIS YOU SHOULD BUT IN REAL LIFE PLEASE JUST USE SAID)

Tried to google who designed the puppets in the new Benedict Cumberbatch Netflix show and google’s AI summary at the top of the results page spoiled the series mystery. Wtf! The internet is OVER

I'm not sure that I'm able to truly communicate with anybody who can listen to "America the Beautiful" without attempting to decode the final wishes of Sam Westing.

I would love a service that made new modern-style trailers for old movies - I’ve been trying to sell my son on so many great films but I show him the trailers and he becomes dead-set against them. (Will he *never* watch Who Framed Roger Rabbit with me? 😭)

I thought this movie was terrific and agree with this take. My son asked me about it & kept wanting to know who we were rooting for, and to truly not have an answer is very effective.
Civil War is (a) about the emotional territory of war journalism and (b) one of the few legitimately anti war movies that depicts war. The refusal to explain the conflict is absolutely part of this, as it purposefully denies the audience a side to identify with.

Blackthorne: the idea that we embrace our present rather than strive for an ambitious but unattainable “better” is a glorious one, and yet it is too easy to read it as a refusal to accept inevitable and often necessary change!! Mariko: the Anjin is mad about Bluey

The new season of Girls5eva is so funny and wonderful. Everyone should watch the whole series if you haven’t because if it doesn’t get renewed I WILL throw up!

But…. kids did remote school during the early pandemic. That’s what caused the loss of education!! Why would more remote school help now???
Mayor Adams defended his decision to not give kids a snow day. "COVID took months if not years away from the education and the socialization of our children. We need to minimize how many days our children are just sitting at home making snowmen like I did and they need to catch up."
Adams Administration to NYC Children: Snow Days Are 'Long Gone' - Hell Gatehellgatenyc.com How did we get here? What does it say that we now live in a world where our parked cars get snow days but our children don't?

I moved the app from my home screen to a different page and basically stopped opening it entirely! It really is muscle memory.
For people who aren't totally ready to leave Twitter (a big step!) just breaking the dopamine feedback loop by locking their account - preventing RTs and virality for their posts - and deleting the mobile app - where there's often muscle memory in randomly opening it - gets you 90% there

My friend Marisa worked on these excellent stories in GH about splitting the household load - check it out!
I would be remiss if I didn't mention my own story in the package, inspired by my biggest parenting pet peeve — the sign-up sheet with only one contact field. Jesse and I try to share parenting equally. Why are we always pushed to name a default parent? www.goodhousekeeping.com/life/parenti...

Once we fix the daylight savings thing, I humbly request that we introduce a 13th month. Every month should have 28 days. That’s 364 in a year. Add in a floating leap day (could be any month!) whenever we need it to line up with the sun or the moon or whatever. No work on leap day, of course.

Here’s my 2023 in editing. 6 graphic novels, 1 chapter book, 4 middle grade, 5 young adult. So proud of all of these, and honored to get to work with all of these authors and artists! And if you still need a gift for the holidays, I can recommend a few…

I love going to the movies with my 8 year old. The Garfield trailer starts and he turns to me and whispers “this one starts sad, but it gets really funny”
