This is a New York Times op-ed about Netanyahu, suggesting that the U.S. government's patience with him should come to an end. It was published twenty-six years ago.
Avatar
when it was said Netanyahu was getting on America's last nerve we didn't know America in fact had many more nerves for him to get on and that's just science and while he may be getting on America's actual last nerve now there may be even more nerves discovered b/c America never stops progressing

House controlled by republicans that year too. And then we gave them the senate that election and it fucked over the Supreme Court cause nobody can figure out the House is America’s purse.

How many lives would’ve been saved. Just a stunning degradation of any/all purported principles

can we stop calling the fucking murderer "Bibi"—a point also made decades ago

I call Biden “JoBi” and he sucks too

The US will lose patience with Netanyahu at the same time it'll act to stop school shootings

that's gotta be Friedman, right?
Avatar
I would not have guessed. It’s surprisingly not incorrect

Well today they are pushing unverified reports of mass r*pe by hamas with no fact checking or remorse.

That was in the leadup to the Wye River agreement, right? Clinton was making good use of the Times to apply pressure, and had some apparent success (of course Netanyahu reneged on his promises to withdraw from 13% of Area C)
🎵Meet the new op-ed Same as the old op-ed🎶

It's fucking awful being a career journalist in this environment. Especially since I feel like only a handful of us have any sort of working memory
You have my deepest respect, thanks for keeping up the hard work. I’m a public school teacher and being professionally ignored is my daily experience.

Total respect to you too!! I love public school teachers with all my heart and will always stand with you
Hope springs eternal that professionalism and knowledge will win the day, I do try hard to instill my students with effective bullshit detectors…

I recall BACK IN 1997-ish having a talk with a Bibi fangirl and feeling weird about that person thereafter. Yeah, it's not like the writing hasn't been in the wall since forever.

It's a preview of the editorial the NYT will write about unsolved problems in the Fourth Trump Administration, minus the urging that we "understand" the pressures working on his supporters.

It won't b US, Arab countries, IR or the Palestinians who will push this issue over the cliff into an existential threat for ISR of changing the status quo - it will be ISR's own settler movement, who just like the South (n US) can not tolerate even incremental improvement of non-dominant population
Avatar
I agree, Clinton should have refused to work with him and that would have gone a long way to solving the problem. Instead Clinton took the path of least resistance, just like with everything else he did.

At the end of the day, supporting Israel regardless of who is in charge has always been more important to the US than the harm done to Palestinians. And besides, Netenyahu is a symptom. Maybe we'll figure that out before another ~30 years go by, but I'm not hopeful.
Avatar
Regime charge is a start. Trump is a symptom of everything that’s wrong with the U.S. but a really bad symptom
Avatar
I just can't wait to be told to STFU about Palestinians because someone else is in charge in Israel.
Avatar
I’m being told to chill about funding genocide because Trump would be worse, it’s all very good
Avatar
Holy Moly! Plus le change....
Avatar
And now NYT is cheerleading genocide rather than reporting on it.

Will be a great day when an international court convicts this power-mad dictator and I will buy the PPV when he is put in front of a firing squad.

Oh he’s a major scumbag

"Oh, Bibi, we can't stay mad at you"
Avatar
“Bibi should lead,” I think that’s part of the problem, maybe the US should stop propping up war criminals instead

Since then they have discovered limitless new reserves of patience for murder of dark-skinned families abroad.

Well, Bibi took option 1 and in fact there was no deterioration in his US relations or with "the Arabs" (at least as defined as the neighboring states and their respective Israel policies now compared to 1998), no?
