it seems pretty likely that sean combs is going to prison for one or more offenses in the next couple of years
"In one incident described in the court papers, Cassie says that in early 2012, Diddy grew so angry about her dating Kid Cudi that he said he would blow up the rapper’s car. “Around that time,” the suit says, “Kid Cudi’s car exploded in his driveway.”

if this is what it takes to get justice after unleashing “I’ll be missing you” on us then fine
Avatar
i mean, he may also get hit with having tupac killed, so there’s that to look forward to
Avatar
sure, but again, you’re humming I’ll be missing you right now aren’t you
Avatar
fortunately no, 1997 was when i moved to a punk house and started doing drugs full time, i have almost no memory of any pop culture for the following three years
Avatar
I don’t want to hear any more sob stories from you then, until 9/11 this was the greatest generational trauma of the era
Avatar
you’re forgetting melrose place getting canceled
Avatar
ah fuck I also forgot woodstock 99
Avatar
you could do an entire shitty remake we didn’t start the fire of terrible pop culture things that happened from like 94 - 2002 if that other band hadn’t already done such a shitty job of it

Excuse me I know this is off-topic but I need to complain about "We Didn't Start The Fire." The song is an anthem for Boomers, disclaiming any responsibility for the state of the world then or going forward. Anyone from a later generation covering it is just doing a self-own.
Avatar
That song really blazes through the ‘70s and ‘80s and it’s a wild insight into how some Boomers view their lives.
Avatar
boomers, the first generation of americans who hope their children have it worse than they did
Avatar
"hope" is a stretch. how about "don't care" if their children have it worse.
Avatar
how about 'are bound and determined to make their children's lives worse'
Avatar
It's all the cocaine they did during those decades.
Avatar
wild but check the timestamps on this, I was already on a heater about that sewage bsky.app/profile/kilg...

Who is doing Billy Joel started the fire, which just trolls every Billy Joel song?
Avatar
Billy Joel started the fire, He’s the one who didn’t call it gin and tonic..
Avatar
This was the very next post on my timeline
Avatar
Fall Out Boy is one of the best bands to do that and miss the point entirely. The only one better would have been if Bleachers had done it.
Avatar
I kindof like both versions for what they are, says this genXer
Avatar
i am possessed of the traditional opinion of our people, which is thinking they both suck
Avatar
Fair enough. It is going away since he apparently cannot remember the words at his own concerts.
Avatar
"It's the end of the world as we know it (and i feel fine)" is the better song, but "we didn't start" the fire is the easier shorthand.
Avatar
“The invention and cultivation of fire led to widespread growth in civilization and society. This has made a lot of people very angry and generally been regarded as a bad idea” (DA/HHGTG)
Avatar
Drifting still further off-topic (I apologize), but can we talk about the grievously misplaced Boomer optimism of Genesis's "Land of Confusion"?: 🎶"My generation will put it right/We're not just making promises/We know we'll never keep..." HEY, HOW'D THAT WORK OUT, PHIL COLLINS?
Avatar
And next comes "It's the End of World... (and I Feel Fine)," an anthem for Gen-Xers denying any repercussions. Generations come and go. Rock still sucks.

Avatar
OK but the line “birthday party cheesecake jelly bean boom” refers to Stipe’s friend Vanessa, singer for Pylon, & balloons popping at her party which just goes to show something
Avatar
? Stipe is a boomer. That song cane out when I was 11.
Avatar
My bad. An anthem for the Millennial generation
Avatar
And to add to the (started not by me) fire (of the worst dumpster-fire thread I've seen in Bsky (so far)...
Avatar
Again, ? That makes it worse. What did they have to apologize for when the oldest were 7? Joel was inspired by that too write "We didn't start the fire." Both are Boomer anthems.

I'm giving you a like not out of agreement but because I admire the boldness of your take.
Avatar
Oh bullshit. It starts in the 50s. The fires were burning much more fiercely in prior decades.
Avatar
That's not the intended point of the song. It was written in response to a young person who thought "nothing happened in the fifties" and every generation before them had had easy times. Really, the title should be "You Youngins Didn't Start the Fire", but that doesn't scan as well.
Avatar
Anyone covering "We Didn't Start The Fire" instead of Bo Burnham's "That Funny Feeling" is two full generations of 'list of angst-ridden things' behind the times
Avatar
Joe McCarthy Richard Nixon Kennerly has some opinions
Avatar
All Billy Joel songs are crap. So its anthemic status for Boomers tracks.
Avatar
Would you mind explaining how my entire generation is responsible for the state of the world?
Avatar
But they DID start the fire?
