In which I ask, among other things, why spend $100M on a “bold public awareness campaign” to increase abortion access when abortion funds are barely scraping by?
$100 Million for Abortion Rights—With a Lot of Questionsnewrepublic.com Abortion Access Now launched this week to much fanfare. But it's not clear how their proposals differ from what's already out there.

For this campaign to launch at the same time that NAF announces that they need to cut their pledges from 50% of procedure cost to 30% in most cases (www.bloomberg.com/news/newslet...) is infuriating. Abortion funds could do so much with just a smidge of this “awareness campaign” budget.
Why a Big Abortion Hotline Is Cutting Patient Supportwww.bloomberg.com Hi there, its Kelsey here to talk about why abortion patients are getting less financial support. But first ...

Thank you for that! That any abortion funds are struggling in this moment is appalling

This is a particularly terrifying struggle - all the local funds lean on NAF for help with expensive procedures. I’m anticipating my next NYAAF shift being dramatically more difficult.

With 100m, each banned state could operate at least one clinic in their state dedicated solely to before and after abortion care to make it easier for traveling patients or those who self manage at home. For four years. Even longer if there was additional support.

"This campaign announcement also comes on the second anniversary of the Dobbs decision, which feels fairly late in the game—particularly for statements like “We’re not going to let them out-prepare us”" !! woof, that stings

(It was rough seeing some big RJ groups sign onto this!)

This is money laundering 101

My bet: That 100 mil is to pay DNC operatives 6 figures to not even try to accomplish anything - just like they co opted Emily’s List and the Girl Scouts and the Red Cross and planned Parenthood

They should've just used the money to buy judges...

I’m interested in contributing to a fund to buy a SCOTUS judge and I’m dead serious.

I've come to believe that these types of campaigns are just self-enrichment grifts. They pay all the people involved with the campaign, but it doesn't affect anything, there are no changes as a result. But a lot of people get their piece of that $100M - but not the people/orgs who need the help.

Thank you for sharing this. I had forgotten about the Hyde Amendment. A new public awareness campaign seems unnecessary unless it is aimed specifically at states where abortion access is denied to those who need it most. I agree that the money would be better spent improving access.

The choir pays my salary. Why would I preach to anyone else?

🙄(at them, not you, of course!)

IDEA: IF YOU HAVE DISCRETIONARY INCOME LITERALLY JUST SET SOME MONEY ASIDE LET PPL KNOW YOU WILL PAY FOR THEIR ABORTIONS, TRANSPORTATION, AND HOTELS IF NEEDED.

You could buy like 400 RVs for Supreme Court justices for that!

I give directly to abortion funds when I can.
