I joke about the Bluesky Wars, but underneath them were at least two serious questions: whether users owed anybody attention and whether blocking people required any explanation. We all landed on no. If people are ruining your experience of the site, block them.
I don't quite get the "don't block" position...if someone comes to my house & acts like a jerk, I'd tell them to leave. If someone here is acting like a jerk, you have every right to be rid of them in your feed & you don't owe them the sparing of hurt feelings by simply muting. Block if you want to.
That position is spread by those who like to argue in bad faith anyways.
The only thing it does is ensure that their bullying victims don't get away.
I'm glad the internet slowly recovers from that pest.
My anxiety won't let me intentionally block a bad interaction from my mind. Fortunately I have a terrible memory and no attention span, and there are too many bad interactions to keep track of, so I forget them by accident. Pretty quickly, too.
This is MY livingroom and I get to decide who get to be here and what is acceptable. Same rules i had at the other place.
I have an itchy-block-button and i like to use it.
I go here to enjoy myself, not to be your audience
the best part of this is that the severity of frustration required for "ruining your experience" is up to you
it's your experience, do what you want. others will do the same
Happy to block trolls and haters. But what about the garbage that’s poured into my feed? I’ve been muting lots of anime stuff I didn’t ask for. It’s more prevalent than hate at this point.
I was too late to experience the Bluesky Wars. I am No. 2 million and something and it doesn’t seem like there are enough people here to have a war over anything.
