RIP, Roger Corman, a true film great, and absolutely the only one to also have about 20 different executive produced and/or directed films appear on MST3K.

It is very difficult to overstate the influence Roger Corman had on my life. No snark or irony intended.

I know! Saw him interviewed at a festival maybe 10 years ago and he was quite sharp and amusing.

Pretty sure only Burt I. Gordon had the closest runner-up spot. Leagues back.

Sandy Frank only had 10 or 11.

🎶 He got lampooned, just like Roger Corman // but only half as many films … HE TRIIIIIIIIIIIED TO KILL ME WITH A FORKLIIIIIIIIFT 🎶

Gads about the house all daaaaay

Bert has more directed movies on MST, but Corman has more total directed and/or produced.

His autobiography title, “How I Made a Hundred Movies in Hollywood and Never Lost a Dime,” says it all
Avatar
I'm not even kidding when I say he may be the most important American director of the latter half of the 20th century
Avatar
Him and Bert I. Gordon (also RIP) together make up like half of MST3K's episode list.
Avatar
Sandy Frank is another 20%, probably

While looking up Corman I discovered that a search for Ed Wood on Google serves up a photo of Johnny Depp.
Avatar
That's because Depp played him in a 1994 biopic directed by Tim Burton.
Avatar
I bought a VHS copy of that movie last year. I should watch it sometime.

It's Burton's best film. He directs it in a (comparatively) minor key, showing how his characters' innate oddness was both isolated them from "regular" America as well as a source of community amongst other weirdoes.

Pee Wee's Big Adventure is his best film. All down hill from there
Avatar
While I disagree, I cannot argue against your opinion. Pee-Wee is amazing.

"Hey, take it easy! Roger Corman needs to use this set later!" 🫡 -The Creeping Terror

"One Take" Roger running from camera set-up to camera set-up.

Joe Dante wrote a screenplay about Corman's experience with LSD ("The Man with Kaleidoscope Eyes"), and I hope he can someday get it made

Corman, The Employer ❤️

Oh fuck, I figured that guy was gonna live forever.

Did we just lose Corman? Oh, man.....
Avatar
Oh damn, I just rewatched Death Race 2000 a few weeks ago. Rip a legend
Avatar
The director died far too soon, Paul Bartel has been dead 25 years I think.
Avatar
Dammit, I knew this day would come but it still sucks. R.I.P.

I met him once when he had his Galway studio and I was screening Lost Weekend. The only photo of Ray Milland I could get was from The Man with XRay Eyes , which he was quick to point out. Busted! A proper gent , I think he appreciated the cheapness of my efforts #RogerCorman
Avatar
Oh this absolutely blows. We lose another legend. :(

Shit, this is how I find out.
