Yes, Dem Party gerontocracy IMO also nurtured a very, uh, protected network of professionals. Certain contractors & professionals are blackballed because they’re too liberal (ie they did work for DSA). The connected pros created “Vote Harder” as a lazy substitute for actual campaign work.
Liberals aspire to be paid by oppressors to gather votes from the oppressed.
Progressives (who are in politics professionally) are mostly the farm system for tomorrow's Liberals.

How so? I ask because I consider myself someone with a big political imagination and I do grassroots work and I’ve been in leadership roles in my community and I can point to policies I helped usher through and I’m bummed as fuck.

Yes - even if one's politics prioritizes elections - that involves the rest of the year. But now that were in this situation, there's so much more to do not that's not voting, including doing work now to make sure the structure around voting is as stable as possible.
I keep thinking about one fact: MLK never endorsed a candidate. If pressed he would say “yeah, Goldwater is not good” but he never was All The Way With LBJ.
