Overwhelming majority of non-voters are impoverished, non-white people who cannot afford to take time off work to stand in line for 6+ hours to fill in a ballot at one of the 4 polling stations in their state. Ah, Europe. Where “collective good” and “housing justice” aren’t dirty words accused of “stealing our freedom.” Seriously, Airbnb is a HUGE part of why renting in NYC is near impossible. But imagine the meltdowns if they tried to ban it here.

A total ban is the only sane policy for Airbnb. There obviously needs to be accommodation in cities for visitors, but that shouldn’t be at the expense of housing units for people who actually live there. More governments should follow Barcelona’s lead.
