Stanley thermoses have been the standard among working class rednecks who had never heard of the hockey trophy at least since I was a tiny girl. My grandaddy had one that my momma got when he died, I'll get it when she goes. What's wild is thinking your personal context is all there is in the world.
it's insane that "stanley cups" are a thing now. like if a product launched called "super bowls" or "baseball trophies"

My grandaddy brought a Stanley thermos looked just like this on every 0400 fishing trip he took me on as a child. My momma has it now. Stanley has also made travel mugs for decades (truckers used to use em cause that vacuum insulation works great).

Weird how you listed like 3 products and none of them are called "Stanley Cups"

Having never looked these up before, at all, I searched the word Stanley on the Amazon app and... well,*someone* is certainly calling them cups

Is it possible for a picture to smell like an aluminum rowboat before dawn? Because I think this does.
Avatar
why are you still doing this
Avatar
Oh wow did he call it a Stanley cup

I definitely just had to go do some googling to make sure the Stanley Cup and the thermos (thermi?) are not the same Stanleys - because it really would explain the shape of the trophy, if it had been modeled off the top of the vacuum flask! (Spoiler: they’re not.)

These keep hot soup hot for like a day it's wild

dad used to fill it up with coffee at 4am before we made the trek into work/school. would pick me up again with it STILL HOT at 4pm!

It’s only a Thermos if it’s made by Thermos. This is just sparkling insulate cup.

These goddamn things are great I have one specifically for fishing.

I just need to find a new cork for mine.

This was my Dad’s work thermos. I wanted to take it when he died last year, but we put his ashes in it instead.
Avatar
Probably works like a charm too. They made stuff to last back then.

Sometimes I forget people don't pay attention to things that don't directly affect them. Like those are in films and TV shows and art of blue-collar workers. Never owned one but absolutely knew what it was & how prolific they are. Smh
They are the best ever-keep coffee hot for eight hours.
Avatar
Been using this for decades!

I think we have this exact same thermos at home, does it have a little wire and plate handle on it?
Avatar
I have one of these, and I got it from my father in law. My dad had one. They're antiques, old reliable ones.
Avatar
1) nice. I have one of those circa 1989 and it had not occurred to me to hand it down but I’m currently thinking through all the nieces/nephews. 2) OP not knowing the Commissioner’s Trophy is awarded to the winner of the World Series blew their entire argument.
Avatar
I think it's more of a joke than an argument champ
Avatar
that's how I brought coffee to work at my first job: a stanley thermos I inherited from my granddad. Pretty sure it's still around somewhere.
Avatar
Huh, I think my dad had one of those (or at least something very similar) but damned if I can remember if it had the logo/label on it. Might have been a knockoff or a different brand.
Avatar
The wave of nostalgia that just hit me. My grandfather had the same one. 🥲
Avatar
I love this thermos. Made my sister drive all over her city to find the right store to carry one. Lasts forever.
Avatar
Oh wow; that pulled up a long-buried memory. I think we used something almost exactly like that when we went blackberry picking when I was a kid.
Avatar
My dad had the same one. A teacher, and not a redneck, but he took it hunting and fishing as well as to work. He presumably still has it somewhere, those things are indestructible.
Avatar
I can taste the stale coffee just from looking at it.
Avatar
Wow, my grandpa too though id forgotten since then. I can see and feel every inch of that thermos in memory now that I've been reminded.
Avatar
My grandmother had one that looked exactly like this one in her garage.
Avatar
My dad has one of those. I remember it being around since I was probably about 4 or 5? And it wasn’t a new thing then, that’s just my earliest clear memory of it.
Avatar
And that thing would keep hot cocoa a delightful temperature ALL DAY on a ski outing.
Avatar
My dad had one just like that that he would take to work
Avatar
There's truckers that still do!
Avatar
I have one similar to this, stainless steel interior. Great for me to save money rather than going to starb*cks.
Avatar
Oh hey that looks like my dad’s work thermos. No idea what the actual brand was but he sure hauled a lot of black coffee to a lot of job sites in it.
Avatar
My Dad had one of those! Used to use it for long family vacation car trips. (possibly for work as well, but the car trips are where I remember it from) Memories 8-)

Until I saw that image, I'd forgotten that the "thermos" trademark has been completely generic for almost 70 years. Also, neat that these dewar containers are the most common vacuum products in use now that CRTs and incandescent light bulbs aren't being made much anymore.
Avatar
That looks like the one my grandfather had back in the 70s. I probably had a smaller version.

That thermos and grandad's buckling overboots (Ranger, I think?) are some of my stronger memories of mine
