Stanley thermoses have been the standard among working class rednecks who had never heard of the hockey trophy at least since I was a tiny girl. My grandaddy had one that my momma got when he died, I'll get it when she goes. What's wild is thinking your personal context is all there is in the world.
My grandaddy brought a Stanley thermos looked just like this on every 0400 fishing trip he took me on as a child. My momma has it now. Stanley has also made travel mugs for decades (truckers used to use em cause that vacuum insulation works great).
I definitely just had to go do some googling to make sure the Stanley Cup and the thermos (thermi?) are not the same Stanleys - because it really would explain the shape of the trophy, if it had been modeled off the top of the vacuum flask!
(Spoiler: they’re not.)
Sometimes I forget people don't pay attention to things that don't directly affect them. Like those are in films and TV shows and art of blue-collar workers. Never owned one but absolutely knew what it was & how prolific they are. Smh
1) nice. I have one of those circa 1989 and it had not occurred to me to hand it down but I’m currently thinking through all the nieces/nephews.
2) OP not knowing the Commissioner’s Trophy is awarded to the winner of the World Series blew their entire argument.
Huh, I think my dad had one of those (or at least something very similar) but damned if I can remember if it had the logo/label on it.
Might have been a knockoff or a different brand.
My dad had the same one. A teacher, and not a redneck, but he took it hunting and fishing as well as to work. He presumably still has it somewhere, those things are indestructible.
My dad has one of those. I remember it being around since I was probably about 4 or 5? And it wasn’t a new thing then, that’s just my earliest clear memory of it.
My Dad had one of those! Used to use it for long family vacation car trips. (possibly for work as well, but the car trips are where I remember it from) Memories 8-)
Until I saw that image, I'd forgotten that the "thermos" trademark has been completely generic for almost 70 years.
Also, neat that these dewar containers are the most common vacuum products in use now that CRTs and incandescent light bulbs aren't being made much anymore.
