No there is. They're plaintext on the bluesky servers. End-to-end encryption is part of the planned protocol tech, and will take a significant amount of work for us to implement

The backlash to April Fool’s day as a concept seems to me to stem from a few factors:
(1) Some truly unfunny pranks and “memes”, often from brands and influencers.
(2) The apparent inability to discern clear satire and tomfoolery from reality.
