The anger at Jamelle Bouie is because much of what the NYTimes publishes about trans people and related issues is bad, and Bouie wrote a column advocating defense of trans equality and got it published in NYT rather than dramatically quitting the paper instead? Please tell me I’ve missed something.

Yes. None of them can say how him quitting the NYT helps trans people in any concrete way. I must have asked fifty times.

The strongest argument for Bouie to not associate with NYT is bc his legitimacy transfers to the rest of the anti-trans journalists employed by the paper. But that argument falls apart when consider the pro-trans stance he’s taken publicly including in his NYT column.

The idea that it's Jamelle Bouie lending "liberal legitimacy" to the New York Times, the liberal establishment Paper Of Record for more than 100 years (and not the NYT lending a platform and megaphone to Bouie), is already pretty weak, even before considering his published pro-trans position.

I saw a lot of outrage over him blocking people from the community... right after they posted outraged "how could you publish in the NYT" type skeets.

Yeah and you know the same people outraged are the ones repeating the mantra "just block, don't engage, just block, don't engage!" Some people are just bullies.
