i have always gotten the impression that standards for reporting and what you want to cover are pretty loose at the intercept, so any time someone is like “i am leaving to tell the TRUTH that the media won’t tell you”, it’s like, oh, you went crazy-crazy, huh

Being annoying as praxis is only the first step. The second step is to gather likeminded neighbors and friends and ask each other how you can maximize your joint annoyingness. Congrats: this is called organizing, you’re building a base of your common man united on a common cause.

An under-discussed aspect of Roberts' lawless, constitutionally illiterate ruling in Trump v. US is that it's perfectly in line with the reason Roberts was appointed by Bush in the first place: he's a true-believer in the Imperial Presidency, hand picked to rule for POTUS in the War on Terror cases.

People like Fallon start from the premise, "Can I imagine some explanation in which this thing, standing alone, can be fitted into a principled legal system?" I mean, yeah, sure, that can be done for anything. But doing so makes you a collaborator and a propagandist, not an honest & wise scholar.

look i'll be clear, I will be voting, and encouraging everyone I know to do the same, against donald trump and the end of democracy in this country in november. I do not care if that means i'm voting for a man who is literally dead.

Article II makes the President Commander in Chief of the armed forces, so technically anything he orders any member of the military to do is within his "conclusive and preclusive constitutional authority." Fun times ahead.

Yeah it’s not like we’ll see a repeat of 1968, when the Democrats downshifted to a Vice President at a convention in Chicago that was plagued by protests against the party’s support for an unpopular foreign war and wound up creating an opening for a candidate they’d beat before. Totally different!
YES THAT WORKED SO WELL AND DID NOT AT ALL THROW THE PARTY INTO A DIVISIVE NOMINATION CONTEST AND LOST ELECTION THAT WOULD HAUNT IT FOR THE NEXT HALF CENTURY

The only realistic way this could've happened would be Biden voluntarily saying in early 2023 "You elected me to restore decency & stability to the White House, I'm proud to say we've done that and more, now it's time to pass the torch to the next generation of leaders." and have a full primary.
this is where I’m at. maybe would have been a good idea to try and swap out Biden before he won all the primaries. but that didn’t happen. we’re all on the leaky ass USS Biden and screaming he needs to drop out is to drill more holes in the bottom bsky.app/profile/esch...

95% of the “Biden must step aside” argument rests on wishcasting a perfect storm: Biden steps down gracefully, there’s minimal fallout for Dems, Kamala steps aside, a talented young gun steps in and performs well. It’s not impossible but to act like it’s a layup is nuts.

Note that this case touches directly on the allegations against Thomas and Alito, re: gifts, vacations, and other luxury gratuities given to them over the years by "friends" and "supporters" (i.e., Leonard Leo's cadre of would-be oligarchs).
The final SCOTUS decision today is Snyder v. US. Kavanaugh has the court's 6-3 decision on ideological grounds, holding that the Section 666 bribery statute does not apply to "gratuities" given for public officials' *past* acts. Jackson writes the liberals' dissent.

This is true: literally the only reason we means-test anything is because it makes safety net programs more politically palatable in the short term. Ironically, non-means-tested programs like Social Security and Medicare Part A are universally more popular and harder to kill in the long term.
The absolutely wild thing is: This goes for ALL social aid. Just *giving people some fucking money,* literally going "OK, how much did you need?", cutting checks, and waving them out the door? COSTS LESS and HAS BETTER OUTCOMES than the current system's bureaucracy and means testing, EVERY TIME.
