Hyundai just revealed the Casper EV, a little electric crossover with just under 200 miles of range (out of just 49 kWh of battery) starting somewhere between $15k and $20k. *heavy sigh* It will not be available in the United States m.koreaherald.com/view.php?ud=...

For reference, the Casper EV is just a little bit smaller than a current Honda Fit on almost every dimension except wheelbase, which is slightly longer. It probably would not be wildly popular with Americans, but if you want a cheap EV the size of a Fit... move to Korea, or Japan, or the EU I guess?

I love my Honda Fit. I wanted to buy an electric car instead of it, and we only bought the Fit because we ended up needing a car in a hurry a couple years ago (and we ended up loving it). An electric car that size would be fantastic.
Honda stopping selling the Fit in the u.s. too :( seems it would have madr a great hybrid/ev

This is exactly the car I want for my kids' first car. The Honda Fit would've be a great first car. My son will be 13 in a month, so I'm looking at small EVs on the market right now that we can buy used off of a lease in 3 years. The Kia Niro EV & Chevy Bolt are the only real options.

It is my dream to see the EV honda fit Arrive and Rise in the markets of the west ✊

I know you've answered this question before, but not sure how to search on here: One of my friends is actually looking to buy an EV to replace his Honda Fit. What would you recommend? I love my Volt, but I'm not sure how good the Bolt is (and it's not in production anymore)...

Lots of used deals in EVs right now! Look at low mile late model Nissan Leafs and Chevy Bolts for the best Fit-like steals.

I'd add this--call a Chevy dealer and let them know you're looking. They can often get them at auction, and then they'll call you right away to let you know! (Speaking as someone who just bought a used Bolt 2 weeks ago.)

I know they've really been trying to get me to sell them my Volt. "Wouldn't you like to trade in for a newer model?" "Yes! I would! Gimme a 2024 Volt, please!"

I think he'd be very happy with the Bolt. Very similar size, and has nippy handling like the Honda. But a whole lot quicker. Leaf is an awful lot softer driving. Bolt also has liquid-cooled battery packs that maintain range and longevity much better than the Leaf battery packs.

Bolt also has CCS fast charging instead of ChaDeMo, so Bolt has many, many more fast charging location options. Just make sure it has the fast-charging capability. Some earlier models didn't have it standard (look for a little orange flap covering part of the port under the filler flap.

Also the BMW i3 (particularly the later years if you can afford em, ~3589 lbs) and the newer Hyundai Kona Electric (3700-3800 lbs) might be worth considering for a low-weight EV hatch. You're looking at a roughly 1000lb increase in curb weight coming from a Fit.

I believe the plural is Nissan Leaves.

I loved my Kona EV! We would have stayed in it, but for family reasons we needed more space. Currently in a iD4, which has been great!

Hyundai IONIQ 5 20,000 trouble free excellent miles!

Yay.... now just wait 5+years for second hand one to be affordable.....

I would drive 500 miles and I would drive 500 more just to be the man that drove one thousand miles to do a gotcha on why EVs suck (they don't, but this decision does)

Why can't we just have good things? It would be so easy for us to have good things, but the people with the power to allow it just...refuse.

Canada used to get small cars the US didn't (Nissan Micra, VW City Golf, B-Class) but that doesn't seem to be the case anymore either

Mazda 2 was another. Was a great little point to point made in Japan import when I had it. Still runs under my parents ownership

FUUUCK! I was all but jumping around for joy until that last line.

Just the kind of EV I would buy for retirement. So of course it won’t be available here. 😑
Avatar
doesn't mean it can't be imported anyway, right? it's not illegal here, right?
Avatar
it has not been federalized, so you can't import it (without spending millions on crash testing) until it is 25 years old

There's so many amazing good cars, some of them even friggen made by us companies, none of which are available here ;_;

Which is why I haven’t purchased a vehicle (new or used) in nearly two decades. Let the auto manufacturers choke on their stupidity.

Americans will do anything to avoid buying a Nissan Leaf

"You gonna tailgate with a car called a 'Leaf'!?!! LOLzzz"
Avatar
Well hey at least I can still get a Fiat 500e for, uh, roughly twice the price

I’ve watched a couple reviews already, and the space in the back for a car this size is off the charts
