The political economy Zakaria sketches is one of an overall growth in individual liberties and material wealth albeit with a sort of sinusoidal boom/bust cycle. Zakaria places the partisan realignment about 20 years early in the USA to my mind but “Age of Revolutions” is still clearly an excellent piece of writing so far
