I have heard it said that one of the symptoms of H5N1 in humans is "intense eye bleeding" and while this suggests such infections will be harder to hide the current pandemic has taught me that even as their eyes bleed most people will insist it’s just unseasonable allergies.

I asked the academic how her conference went and she said at this point in the pandemic she’s used to most things used to sick students used to coughing colleagues used to confusing guidance but it still shocks her to attend a talk on disability at which barely anyone is masked.

I read an article which commented on this moment by noting that “Even though the pandemic may be behind us, the virus is once again surging in the U.S.” and I can’t help but think that the fact that the virus is surging all around us makes it clear the pandemic is not behind us.

A Tesla in full-self driving mode hit my twin today. The driver was not aware, did not have his hands on the wheel, and did not brake. He hit this mother of 2 going 30 mph before blaming it on FSD getting confused by a train and driving off, as if that explained everything. So now, it's personal.
