I told students recently that I feel I'm entitled to frustration, but not so much despair. I think this is true for many people. Everyone's means will look different, everyone's occasion to agitate will as well. Sometimes you're handing out water. Sometimes you're in front of someone else.

I wish we’d talk about this more. Absolute unforced errors on top of permanent crisis states at so many places. It’s like they all got the “Cut humanities, migrate to Workday, troll the faculty into doing work senior leadership should have done, whoops exigency” playbook.

Things are so much worse at many of these places than it seems. There’s a whole bunch of R2 universities rn that have been mismanaged almost into the ground that are barely surviving, but you’d never know it from the outside. In some cases their US News rankings have actually gone way UP, bizarrely.

I have not mentioned this over here yet, but I did get early tenure with a fully OA dossier that included a link to library dot gay for @librarypunk.bsky.social. Thanks to everyone who supported my case and the last few years of work!
