I am completely unconvinced TikTok is somehow more harmful to anyone than Instagram Reels.
I'm fine with banning them both or neither but not only one of them.
Ban both, and YouTube Shorts, too.
I think it's mostly a reciprocal thing though. If China opened up to Reels we'd probably be fine with Tik Tok
that's not really how it's framed but it's not a completely unreasonable argument
What we really need to understand is the real problem is algorithmic engagement. Regulate that and you solve the real problem.

The data the Chinese government is supposedly hoarding is about consumer preferences and user habits. In other words, get in line with the dozens of private companies doing the same.

My impression is there's WAY more political disinformation on TikTok.
