never, I hope. I like that I’m getting to read people’s screeds and scraps of thoughts again. I don’t want it to turn into another place people just post tik toks
I understand where you’re coming from, though! There’s a cleanness and calmness that I appreciate with only being able to post photos and share links, I think. Obviously that’s probably gonna make this app less attractive to a broader / younger audience, so it’ll be interesting to see what devs do.
I hope they keep things as they are here for as long as possible. I like that I can check in every couple of days or less and not feel like I am missing anything.
perhaps they can think about it when the site doesn't stutter under the burden of new signups every time Elon announces Twitter will facilitate gang-stalking by blue checks or publish dms if people don't get a higher tier subscription or whatever
Not sure what embedded really mess means but video is video. Cloud hosting (easy) solutions are very pricey, self-hosted servers may be cheaper at scale but are going to be difficult for a small team to set up
yeah it'd be a matter of "where." I think by "embedded" they mean "not hosted by Bsky," which is certainly much less heavy of a lift but also much less reliable of a UX.
isn't that how YouTube videos work on Twitter now or no? I never used Twitter much and my knowledge is coming back from the days of forums which was my peak internet days.
Oh, I get what you're saying. Videos embedded from other sites are not super hard, but every client needs to support them. On the flip side, a third-party client could support "embedding" youtube video links right now
I know that right now you can post a link to a YT video (not sure about other platforms) and add the link card so people can see what the video is about and who published it on YT. Then they can choose to click the link to watch it or not. Which is fine, but also limiting for news, game devs, etc..
I recently discovered that the preview card works if the YouTube link is of the form "youtu dot be" (what you get from the Share button, though these days there's a bunch of junk at the end) but NOT if it's a "youtube dot com" link - that just gives you a generic "Welcome to YouTube" card.
The standard (short) youtube (dot) com links work too, but yeah- the ones with all of the added junk don't. I'll post something I hope is inoffensive to others to show that it works- you should see the blue active link and then the link card.
