Gorsuch is such a bad and smug writer. What does "it" refer to in this first sentence? He takes until the end of the graf to kind of explain it, and then only really clarifies in the beginning of the next graf. If you're going to start with that sentence, you better clarify what you mean immediately

there was no way for these people to know what they were doing was "corrupt" within the meaning of the statute, and that's why they all went to lots of effort to hide the payments via elaborate and overtly fraudulent schemes

Fascinating when this court invokes leniency and presumption of innocence and when it condemns people with death sentence appeals on innocence claims purely because the orderly operation of the legal death machine is its own intrinsic good.

Reminds me of what I probably haphazardly barfed up in the last twenty minutes of the bar exam essay portion after being sleep deprived for 48 hours

Gorsuch's writings borrow from other authorswww.politico.com The White House rejects any suggestion of impropriety.

This would definitely get The Octopus (circled "it" with every possible noun indicated)
Why should a Supreme Court Justice who is a proud textualist be constrained by clear writing?
