I think a key question is how improbable would the reduced uptake be under existing projections for the underlying components, in other words, is this mainly things that are well accounted synching up unfavorably (but w unsurprising odds), or does this reflect effects which were poorly captured.

I’m not saying it’s impossible. What I’m saying is that their confidence isn’t based on the relevant empirical evidence. There is evidence for measures that work, but industry capture has taken them off the table.

Even if the projections are off, the larger point stands. No one is talking about getting a firm majority of delegations & we can’t exclude the possibility of a hung electoral college.

(Besides, this far out the greater source of uncertainty is in the polls themselves. The Democratic Party establishment is so inured to business as usual that they’re setting themselves up for a suckerpunch.)
