I was thinking about Third Man, but I ultimately went with His Girl Friday

That was a great movie as well.

I liked the Third Man.

When my kid was in third grade they were asked what their favorite movie was and I'd just shown him this and he wrote it down. It was the first "Dad Movie" he'd paid attention to. I was both proud and mystified.

It is profoundly real. No happy endings. Lots of cynicism. Terrific moody cinematography.
