the conservative legal movement is a conspiracy against the rule of law and self-government, and they're close to winning.
Remember that DOJ sought expedited review of this issue from the Court last year (skipping the circuit courts). They refused and punted it to the DC Circuit, which took months; then dilly dallied all this time after the DC Circuit’s decision, before finally issuing a grant. It’s pretty transparent.

Honestly the best chance we had was in 2021 when Dems still controlled Congress - expel the legislators who voted against certifying the election from Congress, use the rump majorities to pass court reform/expansion. bsky.app/profile/mara...
Biden should pack the court NOW. Just elevate circuit court judges who have already been confirmed to make it a at least a 7-6 liberal majority.

That would've been an unprecedented and extreme manuever and basically a counter-coup but as I said at the time, waiting longer to take a step like that will make the remaining options to fix things shrink and grow even less appealing.

Instead of a reckoning with how bad we are screwed by the ever-tightening vice of illegitimate GOP power grabs, we just got denial, and a plan of "maybe the Dems can just pull an inside straight in every single election going forward and never lose power again" and folks, it's not going great!

"this is the most important election of our lifetimes" every election forever is both a joke and not actually wrong

I maintain that the most important election of my lifetime was in 2000 when it was shown that the Supreme Court can appoint a president. And I wasn’t even old enough to vote!

It is fingers in the dike. But honestly that's the rational option.

That’s democracy. Every election SHOULD matter the most. It’s childish to think you can do it once and be done
