we’re not talking about a scotus decision or a tax policy change where the media sets the tone of public discussion / really does have expansive framing power. biden is one of the most famous people in the world and he failed in a widely recognizable way that confirmed his main pre-existing weakness

It’s one thing to critique his debate performance. It’s another for the paper of record to run a dozen op-eds demanding he drop out within 24 hours. My wife literally canceled her subscription today over how obsessed they are.

it’s not just the paper of record, though. it’s pod save america. it’s yglesias. it’s half of the (very, very anti-trump) atlantic, and eric levitz at vox. there’s a rush to the exits because even partisan journalists feel they cannot support this candidate and preserve their personal credibility

I am referring to a widespread top-down effort to override primary voters, not one single paper. People hate this stuff, and are smart enough to know when elites are pursuing their own agenda. Everyone involved is also deep inside very specific filter bubbles.

POTUS exhibited an episode of reduced capacity. Moderately intense, relatively brief, with full return to his normal (demanding) routine in short order. Cause unknown, likely medical, not necessarily serious, not necessarily age-related, but he needs answers and we need answers.

Both of them did not consistently string complete sentences together, which is nuts.

It’s framing in the sense that it’s absolutely a choice to run a dozen pieces saying Biden should drop out and none saying the convicted felon, sexual assaulter, fraud should drop out If they wrote a column saying *both* should, it would be entirely different, and fair
