France dropkicked a baldly fascist political coalition out of office, imo if we can’t manage to do the same we should give back the Statue of Liberty

All of the people indulging in these fantasy Democratic primary scenarios think that people vote reflexively because it’s what they themselves do; they don’t realize that turnout is a product of hard work. Unseen, unheralded work. By unseen, unheralded people.
I don’t know why they think pissing off the door-knockers and canvassing power of the party will end well, but these people don’t understand what they refuse to see

A lot of folks who supposedly analyze politics for a living are just like…not good at it?

Just discovered, by accident, that my daughter's old K-2 primary school is getting a Geothermal Upgrade to their HVAC system. Drill rig out on the side field now, number of well holes already in. Very exciting to see this kind of climate action in my backyard!

It's 2035. You just walked out your door into a world that got through the shocks of 2024 -26 more connected, a little ecologically healthier, with civil and human rights strengthened & with commitment to actually being a just & ecological society. What's the 1st thing you see?

I really don’t think most people realize just how hard the boot will come down if Trump and the Republicans win the election. Most people have never experienced the totalitarian surveillance state with the power to reach into their homes and minds at will they are telling us is their plan.

A person on their own can kill maybe a few hundred people. White collar crimes have killed tens of thousands. Its hard not to look at the Bhopal disaster (union carbide India was 50.1,% USA owned) and think that wasn't violent
A hill I will die on: all white-collar crimes are violent crimes. It's just that the violence is removed from the perpetrator because the perpetrator is wealthy.

Whoa.
Masoud Pezeshkian, the reformist candidate who advocated moderate policies at home and improved relations with the West, won the presidential runoff in Iran against a hard-line rival, according to results released by the interior ministry on Saturday. nyti.ms/3xMgPZc

Yes! Except this isn't about "how much the city might have collected in one hour," but instead: + Better trains + Faster buses [notice the cop car helping clog the bus lane?] + Less pollution + Faster ambulances + Safer cyclists + Greater economic productivity + More jobs + A more livable NYC

This is the whole story.
I mean, I look at the structural stuff, not the narrative here. The polls have barely moved, Trump has no money, and Biden has a huge war chest and time booked. Why let the panic of a few people- largely driven by people that already don’t like Biden- shape what I’m thinking here?

Ida destroyed the foot bridge that is along our creek, which has still not been rebuilt since. It also destroyed our town lake beach for the 2nd time that season, and shut the lake early for the year.
Apropos of a conversation I had today with a non-scientist: Climate risks are not going to be isolated to the "usual" vulnerable places. Remember Hurricane Ida (which was my first hurricane evacuation from NOLA)? It hit Louisiana as a cat 4, but caused more $ damage and deaths in NJ+NY+PA than LA

Let me be clear. In my opinion, John Roberts has joined Roger Taney (Dred Scott - slavery) as a Chief Justice who will be remembered as an evil man. Not just wrong, but worthy of eternal condemnation for trying to destroy the Republic.

tbh its super notable that with all the news tumbling like an avalanche coming down a mountain at Biden, Trump's campaign felt compelled to post this
even trump’s campaign staff (i assume he didn’t write this) knows that the reactionary, authoritarian agenda that’s project 2025 is going to be unpopular with the average voter.

This is 100% true and also it is not the way that history and social studies are taught to USian students. So this is not something that most people think or understand.
For most of its history, America hasn’t been a democracy, by any meaningful definition of the term! This isn’t some It Can’t Happen Here shit, in a way, it’s already happened. It just may not have directly affected you.

I know there’s a very real threat of not having free and fair elections after this. But people organizing in the Jim Crow South already didn’t have those and they still did the work.

Johnny McEntee, one of Trump's most loyal deputies who is in regular contact with him, is literally one of the people collecting resumes for staffers who would implement Project 2025. Shame on any journalistic outfit who takes this "truth" at face value.
Today in "Trump didn't write this, someone on his campaign staff did." I don't know if Kellyanne Conway is working for Trump these days but this feels more like her style, voice, and syntax than Trump or those posting on his behalf recently.

actually a pretty decent endorsement of how bad he's been for the billionaire class that they are trying to end the constitution to bd rid of him
It really is amazing how much visibly this is an elite revolt against Biden. Major donors! East coast pundits! The Disney heiress! The only protestors we can find are in the Hamptons!

📢NEW: There's another election on the horizon, and this one is far scarier. I wrote about The Heritage Foundation's well-funded, tightly coordinated plan to create an ever more brutal future - and it'll affect everyone on Earth.

So Trump is claiming he's not on board with Project 2025. Ok, so now it's over to the New York Times, who will surely assign its political reporters the investigation that describes the depth of this lie.

Library funding is almost always justified through patron numbers. The more people a library serves, the more funding it gets. So even if you don't regularly use a public library, get a library card. It costs you nothing and helps everyone in your community.
today is my NINETEEN YEAR anniversary working at my local library In honor of that, I ask you to get a card to your local public library today! If you ALREADY have a card to your local public library, check out their digital resources! Their summer programs! And yeah, they have books too.
