Will this one stick?
The last time I got the little wave the car had NY plates
I do wish there were more rental & multifamily options in more neighborhoods. Lots of people would like to stay where they are, but not in a house with a yard to take care of.
Do it do it do it! My husband hates change and was so hesitant to move and he's really, really enjoying not having the constant cloud of house related work hanging over his head.
I think this is an argument for moving often. Downsizing after 20+ years was HARD in a way getting rid of stuff when I moved annually never was
The constant, constant mental load of all the things you're in charge of. Always being mad at yourself (or your spouse) for not finishing improvement projects. Just sold a house this spring, highly enjoying renting.
It's got to be wearing, being the only sane option and having a commitment to being the BIg Tent.
I've been waiting and waiting for the Rs to go completely under so the Ds can split centrist& left
I think it's actually fortunate. They were both segregationist until 1965. Now we have one officially anti racist party instead of two officially racist ones.
It was specifically about Boomers who were anti war when subject to the draft and then reverted immediately after
My mil, same. One of her younger sisters straight up says so - she'll start stories with "my mom and dad were some parenting by the time I came around, so ..."
We saw one on a road trip that made a smiley face when you got down to the speed limit. It was awesome.
In the words of our real estate agent this spring "no one cares about the lawn"
The housing cost difference is usually less than the extra cost of having a car, but people expect to keep the car even if they move into the city so they don't see it
The time I scrambled into clothes and ran outside and the kid screaming "Help! Help! Help me!" just wanted his sister to carry his 2 liter soda bottle
Yeah, what most people seem to mean by it is losing compassion, not disliking change. And they're not the same. But it's definitely a thing I see inside myself as I feel close to fifty - the willingness to accept flaws and just be grateful there's a structure in place.
Most of us get more tired and appreciate stability more though, and that's a kind of conservatism. I know I moved right (from anarchist towards socialism) as I realized how much I appreciate the institutions other people put so much work into building
I just keep thinking about Bisan's feet. That feeling of sore blistered feet and no chance of rest, it's so visceral. I can think about it in a way I can't bear to think about the thirsty, hungry babies and the deaths.
Grew up in small towns. There is a reason you don't share all your innermost thoughts with everyone - it's easier to like most people if you don't know all that.

Jobs are a big part of it. The community college in my hometown has a wind turbine tech program.
Minnesota doesn't do automated traffic tickets but our police do have plate tracking cameras all over anyway. I'd rather ban or control the cameras but that seems impossible so it would be nice if they did traffic enforcement with them instead of no enforcement or shooting people
And job training. Recruiters always claim you can get job training that will set you up in IT or whatever after you get out.
There's a lot less benefit to being a cop. They sell college benefits hard when they're recruiting, but also everyone knows you get the good healthcare by joining up or marrying someone who enlisted
Firearms safety course just have me infinite contempt for most of the gun owners I dealt with.
Midtown had kohlrabi, lettuce, onions, etc 2 weeks ago. Also amazing strawberries but that season might be done
I feel like my parents are absolutely middle of the road Democratic voters - old white union members - and they absolutely loved Biden.
They loved Obama too, fwiw.
I was agreeing with you! But also we didn't talk enough about how fucking scary the right has always been in the US
And the right will bomb or shoot you. Or try to kidnap and murder you
Lots of people still don't have good enough Internet at home to stream things. There was a big push in 2020 to pay for internet access for everyone, but that's over.
