OK, Heritage Foundation, if you're that set on the ticket you have, you get to face Biden -- who commits to stand aside for Kamala after one week. The appearance of the ballots is unchanged, just like you asked for. (Who am I kidding? They'll come up with some other crap...)

For those arguing that an attempt to try a President is the *only* way to reconsider the absurd SCOTUS ruling on Presidential immunity... there might be other rules a successor court could also throw out.
The Court has never, in the past, reopened cases and revisited its own prior rulings sua sponte. But it's never done a lot of things that seem to be happening right now. And Congress could arrange to request reconsideration if they wanted to, at least as legitimately as... whatever *this* is.

Haven't posted much on the debate, but someone's desperate for my opinion - I've gotten a half dozen push polls on it today in spam texts. Either there's some kind of really unusual fundraising scam going around, or a real chance things are about to get seriously weird

So, ummm... if payment to government officials after the fact is now legal, has the Supreme Court just explicitly legalized kickbacks?
They use the word "commonplace gratuities" in the opinion and I'm so baffled. It's not commonplace at all to give a gratuity to a GOVERNMENT OFFICIAL who used THE POWER OF THE GOVERNMENT to enrich you. Or at least, it wasn't until now.

Elizabeth Spiers on beliefs of "evangelical Christians", who reject everything in the gospels about tolerance and mercy. One thing she doesn't mention... the gospel warnings about "false prophets" who are "inwardly ... ravening wolves". True students of Christian eschatology might worry about that.
They believe in a bastardized version of Christianity that’s reverse engineered from their biases. It does not teach compassion but gives them permission to judge people they don’t like and punish them for deviations from conservative norms. It has never been rooted in service to others

Looks like the right wing crowd at The Federalist thinks Dolly Parton is "unchristian" for encouraging tolerance of behavior they regard as sexually sinful. Also unchristian: Jesus of Nazareth, notorious for saying in one such case, "let him who is without sin cast the first stone".
There's Nothing Loving About Dolly Parton's False Gospelthefederalist.com Dolly's right that all should be treated with love and kindness, but when we refuse to label sin a sin, we’re doing more harm than good.

Anyone who says they support protest so long as it follows the rules, ought to be enraged when kids who were doing that get jackbooted anyway after the rules are changed behind their backs. Haven't seen one yet. Shall we give it a week?
UVA and Virginia state police are raiding the Gaza solidarity encampment next to the Rotunda. They literally changed the bylaws, which previously permitted tents, a few hours ago. The encampment had been going quietly for several days.

The biggest tell about what Columbia's administration was *really* after is that the campus is still locked down; all classes and exams are remote. The supposed rationale for the police swarm was to eliminate disruption of academic life. They've cancelled academics instead, leaving only dead quiet.

Truly spectacular how universities "couldn't do anything" about literal Nazis giving speeches [and leading to actual violence including shootings] but they're banning students (including many Jewish students) from their grounds for being "antisemitic".
The new policy that Indiana University used to justify snipers, arresting students and faculty, and banning those arrested from campus for a year, was enacted *one day* before yesterday's protests began. It wasn't even posted online until yesterday morning. www.idsnews.com/article/2024...

Just idly wondering who Biden expects to get out the youth vote in swing states. And how many of those are risking arrest right now to protest a military campaign for which he's supplying most of the bombs and munitions. (Yes, he keeps wringing his hands about the carnage. And sending more bombs.)

Some of the people who think Biden's gaffes are obviously new and a sign of decline weren't born when one of them ended his first Presidential campaign in 1987. (And it really was that bad.) But he can't exactly say that.

Not just the NYT either. NPR has no coverage at all of Abbott's ongoing armed stand-off with border patrol, his defiance of the SCOTUS ruling telling him to knock it off, or his claimed right to nullify relevant Federal law. But they are talking about what it means "if" Biden wins South Carolina.
But it's all self-deception. Trump isn't Bush or Dole, but moreso. Trump's party is not Reagan's party, or even John McCain or Romney's party. It is an entirely new construction; it's not one whose policies are centre-right to oppose a centre-left, but one that is anticonstitutional. NYT can't adapt

Tales of the fearless, liberal press: the day after Texas claimed the right to nullify federal immigration law (an area reserved to the Federal government in the Constitution itself), I'm not sure NPR is covering the issue at all. They led their 7:00 EST hour interviewing someone from "No Labels".

I agree that Israel's victory conditions seem impossible. But does Bibi want to win? Bibi must stay PM to put off his trial. But per polls, when the attack ends, he's gone. So the best goal for him is an *unachievable* one. Like for a Gaza attack to wipe out Hamas — including its leaders in Qatar.
