We stayed at an Airbnb with a massive gas leak and the owner kept blaming the previous occupants for making "ethnic food". We ended up calling the gas company, which found 3 major leaks while we were packing up to escape. The way Airbnb handled it we couldn't leave an honest review
Good reporting on an entirely predictable problem. Fun fact: Airbnb also covers up thousands of sexual assaults every year! Its internal safety team has "cool-down rooms" to take a break from the trauma of what they hear.
It's a bad company, a bad industry, and people should just stay in hotels.
He kept telling us to just check out early. I actually bought a gas sniffer at Home Depot. Major leaks at the meter, at the water heater, and at the house heater. Minor leak at the stove. The dude had perfect reviews in a spot next to Disneyland
The owner actually came in TWICE and sprayed cleaning chemicals everywhere to try masking the smell.

We got a refund, covered for 3 nights at a hotel, and a voucher for future use. So that was nice, but damn that could've killed us.

That is a challenging feature. I see why both parties can leave reviews by default but it inevitably encourages review inflation. There should be some action against parties with multiple customer service complaints or egregious behavior.
Yeah our only insight was that all of his properties were taken down and then were up again a month later. So he took his financial hit but it doesn't feel like accountability
when guests got rowdy at 2:15am (neighbors called me) I called Airbnb to ask them to leave, but "no one has called the police yet". So I get to call recently separated vet w lethal force & poor de-escalation skills (small town, I knew the cop on duty) or hope it's quiet for the right reasons? Thanks
