There is writing on the back of this photo but the only word I can decipher is “Lucky”. Maybe you guys can help.

It looks like Finnish to me. Let me see if I can figure it out…

First line: Mina ja Lucky "Me and Lucky"
Avatar
next line: tämä on [?] "this is [?]"

I would think it means "this is taken in our house" but that would be "tämä on otettu meidän talossa" so it's something similar to that

My grandma had a similar handwriting and I think it says "Mina ja Lucy tämä on otettu meijän haussisa." Google translate says it means: "Me and Lucy, this was taken while we were having fun."

No, wait, the s is in the wrong place. Wow, Finnish is a fun language. Just moving the s around to change haussisa to hausissa makes it "Me and Lucy, this was taken in our house." Maybe?

Except the usual Finnish for "house" isn't related to our word "house" (or German "Haus"); it's "talo" (with many inflectional endings available). So IDK

Finnish immigrants used a lot of local words mixing them with Finnish sentences like in this case.

Ah, good point, I hadn't thought that it might be in Germany but that would explain it.
Avatar
Yeah looks like German but sounds like how a finn would say the loan word 🙂

oh, what a sweet inscription on the back.

But correct, at least to me.

Can you say what the last two words actually are? bsky.app/profile/cats...

I read meijän hausissa = meidän talossa.

'Hausissa' is definitely Finglish...
