I don't think everyone is "suddenly" having adhd and autism. I think millennials were raised by parents who were ashamed of having children that weren't "normal" so we were forced to mask so hard that we "seemed" normal but were "just a little strange" and now we're all learning to unmask.
One of the weirdest parts of finally understanding that I’m autistic is realizing how fucking autistic my parents are and have always been forced to mask.
It just worked out better for my old white dude dad who’s good at computers and doesn’t have fibromyalgia or occipital neuralgia
what's really fun is when you realize that a lot of the trauma responses you have around being autistic and forced to mask are the ones your parents modeled for you
like ive got trauma responses to trauma i didn't even HAVE??? i was just taught to BE like that?????
I can’t get a doctor to diagnose me ADHD. I’ve had them say “You clearly are, but your executive function scores are through the roof and you weren’t diagnosed as a kid.” Turns out 27 years ago my parents were told I was ND but it wasn’t ADHD or ASD and wasn’t in the DSM so I couldn’t be diagnosed.
I tried to get a diagnosis earlier this year and got a “nope” because I don’t have a history of problems in school or work
Like I have coping mechanisms for that, my apartment is horrendous and I would like to be able to handle that too
