Grumpily cynical political geek, would-be carpenter, bad guitarist. Politically left of centre by some distance. Like rugby, judo, rock, atrocious puns and my cat.

I've had some good results from Osmo Polyx hard waxes. They take a long while to fully dry, but they're designed for floor use so wear is not much of an issue. Example: a desk I made last year

Next stage of my table build. Finished all the leg joinery today, all hand cut castle joints.

Next up, them flat bits for the top

Another day, more maths and measurements. Table stretchers are nice and square with a fit that needs a mallet to get in and out. Lovely. Now to add the corner stretcher with turntable.

And, last thing so the glue dries overnight, the second table leaf glue-up. Looks good so far.

Enzo is entirely failing to chase pigeons, and is guarding the table in case it tries to walk off.

Oh, for sure, they'll come in handy. I have loads, including recently some really chunky ones from Lidl that I'm really pleased with, they're absolutely rock solid

Just image searched and this came up, it doesn't surprise me because they LOVE making tools here. They also do it well, but I can't get on with German style hand planes so I stick to Stanley type.

One of those looks that can be pulled off, but only by the very few who genuinely don't give a shit what anyone thinks.

Because my snacks came with pretzel letters and I am cursed with a very puerile sense of humour

Currently grilling under an umbrella, as the rainstorm was impolite enough to arrive uninvited.

I'm just going to leave this here.

Shots fired from Germany.

For a first attempt, I reckon that's a decent enough castle joint.

Latest round of me perpetrating woodwork.

Same, mine is usually something like this

Made a bench for my wife's apprenticeship class to give to the teachers. They're going to put a handprint from each on it and then varnish it.

I think on this gent it looks fantastic, but it might look a bit close to McCoy. A callback, perhaps.

Nice. Closest thing I have to mine is when I engraved it into a guitar

I must now introduce you to Chambord, or as it is correctly known, the Holy Handgrenade.

How could one survive without this kind of sparkling conversational brilliance?

Making a bench this week, just been ensuring I have enough firelighters for bbq season. With a handplane.

In fact my grandfather, whose tools they were, also left me his pocket knife, which had seen a bit of use and resharpening...

And now we have something a little more safe and useful.
