There’s a bookstore in my town in SW Virginia with an entire shelf devoted to how much JD Vance sucks and doesn’t speak for Appalachia, which I’ve always had the sense is a somewhat bipartisan consensus out here, so I confess I am curious to see how that ends up playing.

UNC Asheville is going to close its drama, philosophy, religious studies, French, and German depts because financial consultants recommend this. These consultants only count the number of majors, not the number who take and are influenced by courses from depts other than their major. Shame!

We found a copy of Wittgenstein's Philosophical Investigations at the encampment. These kids are questioning Augustine's theory of language. They're getting into all kinds of gnomic aphorisms. They think that if a lion could speak we wouldn't understand it. Absolutely depraved stuff.

"Are you better off today than you were 4 years ago" is gonna get thrown around a lot this cycle and somehow it's gonna be about the price of gas and eggs, and not how we ran out of space in the morgues and had to stack bodies like firewood in vans in central park

Trump didn't just screw up the economy. He let many thousands die bc he couldn't be bothered abt their safety. Never was there any doubt that COVID could be extremely dangerous. On Jan. 1 2020, reading a news report abt the new disease in China, I realized we could face a world pandemic in months.

if I had any say over the like $40 billion Dems are going to fundraise this year I’d spend like 100m setting up a big party publication. this used to be common!

Every new right-wing publication is named The Daily Constitution and pays a dozen writers mid-six-figure salaries thanks to backing by the CEO of fascism. Every new left-wing publication is named Lazer Sword & pays fifty contributors $300 a month, funded by laid-off journalists donated buyout pay.
