A lot of things that Biden wants to do are things I think are good things we should do. A lot of things Trump wants to do are things I think are bad things we shouldn't do. Therefore I will be supporting Biden even though I don't agree with him on everything. This is not complicated.
Excited to introduce a project I've been working on for a long time: a thorough comparison of Biden and Trump on the issues. "The stakes, not the odds," to borrow from Jay Rosen. The initial version has 6 topics, but I'll be adding more, as well as updating with new statements/policies. Gift link:
Where Joe Biden and Donald Trump Stand on the Issueswww.nytimes.com Here’s what President Biden and former President Donald J. Trump have done and want to do on abortion, democracy, the economy, immigration, Israel and Gaza, and Social Security and Medicare.

Some people who are very stupid are saying stupid shit in the replies here. I am blocking them. Some of you are trying to argue with these people as if they are expressing a reasonable and defensible point of view. This is clogging my mentions and wasting your time.

Biden's second term would almost certainly make his the most consequential presidency for climate change in American history. Trump's second term would also almost certainly make his the most consequential presidency for climate change in American history. For very, very different reasons.

Right. It's literally the most important issue in this election. Fascism or Democracy & climate change mitigation? Nothing else matters. OK, it matters but climate change/the US not being a democracy anymore make every other issue anyone cares about worse.

Obama: 8 years as POTUS; appoints 2 to SCOTUS Trump: 4 years as POTUS; appoints 3 to SCOTUS Biden: 4 years as POTUS; appoints 1 to SCOTUS Thomas & Alito almost certainly retire 2024–2028; Roberts and Sotomayor might, too. A Trump win in November = 5–7 Trump-appointments on the SCOTUS.

but DO they retire if Biden retains the White House?
Avatar
Probably not, if you want to reclaim the Court you’re going to need to vote in 2028 too.

It's almost as if voting were a lifelong responsibility.

I voted for Biden. He gave cops more $ after they brutalized BLM protestors, supports genocide, calls anti-genocide protesters antisemitic as cops brutalize them too and backed white nationalist border bill. Maybe he won't align with fascists if I vote harder for him this time.
Avatar
Ok then don’t vote for him if you think he “aligns with fascists”
Avatar
Possibly not, but both Thomas and Alito are in their 70s. There's a strong chance that even if they don't want to retire, they'd be leaving the bench due to health issues or dying in office.

Oh sweet, are we allowed to do nuance again?
Avatar
No, you're supposed to pretend Biden and Trump are the same, and that Trump will potentially be an improvement over Biden on Gaza
Avatar
Avatar
it'll be exactly the same under Trump, yeah
Avatar
No. It'll be so much worse under Trump.

(Yes, I agree, I actually know that)
Now that is a very intelligent assessment.
