Fucking god please factcheck with me about what you're going write about me and the British Museum before you post it publicly i'm not working with Modern Poetry in Translation anymore and i'm not ready to talk about it, but i don't want anyone to mention me in the same sentence with them ever again

saw a comment about a translation of a chinese poem being really timely commentary about the present... except the opening line of the translation actually obscures the specific context of it being written after a country collapsing after invasion

making an unplanned venture into lyrics translation officially for the first time because Qiu Jin wrote a feminist anthem and i'm working on translating it - lyrics as printed on the bag below

THIS IS ALSO ONE OF MY FAVORITE READS OF THE YEAR SO FAR.
it's the end of June and i guess i should shout about the fact The Lantern and the Night Moths is a pretty queer book, especially because Qiu Jin is featured and the section on Fei Ming also talks about translating nothingness/ambiguity which is of interest to ace and aro folks

Came across some discussions about issues in the the Simplified and Traditional Chinese translations of Ocean Vuong's novel... "What is a country but a borderless sentence" got translated into 没有边界的句子 (sentence as in a grammatical sentence, not the punishment kind) in traditional chinese 😳

i found the racist person...
Who is this M.C. person who wrote this bullshit that was published in The Times literary supplement? "hardly suggests unwillingness to give credit when it is due" i literally had to fundraise to nearly sue the British Museum

也真是奇了怪了,被大英博物馆偷了翻译已经够倒霉的了,还赶上不知道哪里跑出来的阿妈阿狗来靠侮辱人蹭热度,急着帮大英博物馆当舔狗还能够被"文学刊物"发表。英国的某些水刊这是没有正经作者了嘛,应该跟大英博物馆直接关门倒闭吧。没有文章发表可以不写知道吗? 别乱丢网络文字垃圾。

Just to make today more ridiculous, i heard from a company that wanted to hire me for cultural consultations but then asked me to fill in a whole NDA and complete pages of paperwork, only to surprise me with "a translation test" that would be many hours of free copy writing.🤡

i'm now requiring all my translation contracts to say explicitly that publishers can't use my translations to train AI, nor use AI-generated art for book cover or promotional purposes. this conversation is happening a lot among writers but it's good for translators to adopt as well.

saw the word 史同 and thought it was slang for gay men in chinese history but it turned out to be fanfic about historical figures lol... i guess there can be a crossover though

seeing all the times that Qiu Jin used the words 断肠, 销魂, and 愁 in her poetry make me sad about how depressed she was during certain years of her life 😮‍💨

I'm sorry, are you telling me that in a speculative fiction market as vast and increasingly diverse as what we're in now, only 3 people have won the editor award from Locus since 1989??? This is Hugos-level bad voting practice. Come on y'all. Read more widely.

Hey folks, I have some book news to share! I have signed a contract to translate an art book entitled 《猫仙人的世界》 The World of Cat Immortals, which is forthcoming in 2025. The book has some of my favourite elements: poetry, Chinese mythology, and of course, cats.
