Had an interaction where I was talking about 2A stuff, homesteading, minor prepping, backwoods survival stuff, in a call of duty lobby. Some dude pipped up and was like “are u married? U’d make a great wife” etc and I was like nah, and they were like y? And I was like, cuz I’m a raging communist.

Interactions like these firmly cement my belief that the word “communist” is useless in todays vernacular if you’re speaking to normies. Much to the chagrin of anarchist memelords, optics are important in creating solidarity, and also weeding out undesirables. Y’all aren’t out here talking to folks.

And I’m also not talking about fucking call of duty. It was fun to make a misogynist dick head shit his pants because I said the C word. But in reality blue collar and working class voters don’t understand their rights or what they’re voting for.

Coming from a rural ag background I think it’s incredibly important to be having sympathetic and fact based conversations about workers rights. This is how we win, this is how we join people to the cause. Nihilist insistence on anarchist chaos does not a Revolution breed.

You know what does though? Knowing your neighbor. Strengthening your community bonds. Gently educating, and showing compassion in understanding that there is a well lubricated system at play when it comes to them vs us. You can change minds, and you will. You just have to try.

OPTICS BABY IT'S ALL ABOUT OPTICS

Like dude I get it, I really do. But why alienate the uneducated or under informed off the rip. It’s like watching liberals get into petty Facebook arguments. You’re not changing anything in a comment section, and your not accomplishing praxis by burning down a mom and pop.
Avatar
it's part of why i removed communist out of my bio because like yes i am but now i get liberals following me who go "hey katie you're right about this" and that's what matters
Avatar
no emojis in bio = devious entryism
Avatar
never heard that term before. had no clue my strategy had a name
Avatar
I never use Communist words, but people keep being able to tell I'm a dirty pinko anarchist because I say things like "all cops are bastards" and "prisons shouldn't exist" and even "jobs are bullshit".
Avatar
Yo it’s early af in the morning and I read this wrong and was about to try and gently explain why all of those are correct but I’m a fucking idiot so I deleted that response lmao.
Avatar
i mean, i really am a liberal and i often look at communists and that general space and think, "they got some good ideas and often a heart in the right place" lots of these ideologies are fundamentally compatible with each other if you share a foundation of human rights and dignity
Avatar
maybe you're less of a liberal than you think tbh. generally the fundamental difference is a belief that the status quo, while it may have some kinks, is Good
Avatar
funniest part about all of this is that generally the people I see online complaining about “tankies don’t do anything!” or “I don’t owe anything to those people.” I don’t see in real life organizing. Like who exactly are you trying to save then? Cuz if it’s just you and yours what’s the point.

leftism is frequently a form of larp
Avatar
One hundred percent. And an online persona is one thing. It’s what you’re actually doing for the cause that matters. And sometimes that means people don’t see it, but that also doesn’t matter. Because once again if you’re doing it to be seen that’s fucking stupid.
Avatar
Is that why you work on optical targeting systems in your defense contractor job?

I once tried to describe democratic socialism to my mom and she just couldn’t get beyond the word “socialism”. It’s a distraction for boomers. They were brainwashed to hate communism and the like and it’s hard to undo that kind of decades long damage. Not using the word makes for better discussion.

When I go home I love to get into it with the old dudes at the dive bars and diners I go to. And 9/10 these people whole heartedly agree. You just have to meet them where they’re at. And idk maybe that makes me a bad communist or a bad anarchist or a bad anarchocommunist idgaf. It’s about people.
Avatar
Success movements center around people as far as I’m concerned. People who are concerned more about the label they represent than the people they could actually interact with in a productive way have just lost the plot.

My family came here as refugees during the 70s because of the war(s) in SEA. When Bernard Sanders was getting a lot more press a bit ago, I had a fun convo with each of my parents trying to convince them he's not fuggin Pol Pot. I get why socialists worry them but peeps in US it's 100% red scare BS

There is a broad, sweeping, incredibly complicated and nuanced history between communism, socialism, the world, and the CIA. My family is Romani and fought with the Yugoslavian Partisans before relocating to and hiding (as many did) in Italy. Very different experience with communism.

I closest identify with the political theories of Marx & Lenin & a few others which solidly aligns me with communism. Nothing is perfect, there is more to read & see & do always, & we use theory to inform, and to help us interpret politics. It should never be a hardline. That’s how we got Biden.
Avatar
It frustrates me so much that it's difficult to discuss all that history and all that nuance because there's a group of people out there that make a fuck load of money off of us getting mad at each other and seeing targeted ads.
Avatar
I feel like there's two fronts here. The first is saying things that are just good sense but communist ideals so people aren't put off by them. But also I think that destigmatizing those ideas is also important. But I don't think prison abolition is something normies will accept regardless.
