Prison rape jokes are a part of rape culture. Making “don’t drop the soap” and “become someone’s bitch” jokes means you think rape is okay if it happens to certain people.

Hate how pervasive this still is

I will block people who do that shit with zero hesitation

Even the phrase "don't get so butthurt" stems from this.

My understanding was always that it came from spanking. I know this is a knowyourmeme link, but this has always been my interpretation of the history of that phrase. Regardless, not great knowyourmeme.com/memes/butthurt

I also have always assumed it was a reference to anal sex that simply stuck around because everyone can relate to having a pain in their ass. Though I don't think "pain in the ass" is a reference to anal. But "butthurt" comes from channer types, so being a rape thing seemed likely.

I had never heard it being a reference to spanking either. I'd always thought it was an allegory of "taking it in the ass" or "he really got buttfucked" so you could use it in "polite" circles. The way I commonly see it utilized is in response to one being perceived as over emotional to a slight.

In that context, I don't see how spanking relates. I'm always willing to be wrong though.

This is what I keep wondering!!! Butthurt always made me cringe because it sounds like a gay and/or rape reference?

Indeed, and it's pervasive in otherwise politically correct places like Reddit. These people often are on the side of the #metoo movement yet throw around such jokes/allegories willy nilly. It's disgusting language and they should be called out for it.

I never thought of it that way, I thought of it more like a kid falling on their butt and crying, combined with the way we just add a syllable to slang now and then.

I'm not sure I understand your response.

It is a common part of my lexicon and I had, in fact, used it in a post referencing the publisher of the New York Times' position re: Biden not giving them a sit-down interview not 30 seconds before seeing your post.

It kills me too. Nobody deserves to be raped.
Avatar
Yes. It makes me sick to hear it.

When I was a teenager in 1990's Southern California, Sublime's "Date Rape" was popular on the radio as a pseudo-feminist revenge story with the rapist getting raped at the end. It always made me uncomfortable, and it took me a while to realize that it was just celebrating rape as a power fantasy.

The video has aged worse than the lyrics, possibly.

Thankfully, I've never seen it

Rape apologists, any kind, are essentially saying that there exist certain scenarios under which rape is permissible. Be sure to call them out of this. Every time.

It broke me that time where freaking SpongeBob made a joke about it.

Why do some have this "it means this" if you laugh about "this" thing in their head? There were many movies and comedians who embraced the topic to make people laugh about something very serious. My thoughts : I always found them kind of funny, but I am definitely not part of rape culture.

I really want to agree... But then my Schadenfreude activates because some people are so genuinely horrible that genuinely don't give a flying fuck what happens to them. Like Trump, for example.
