Larry's one of the all-time greats and is still doing fantastic and fun work every month in GI Joe, and deserves better, including all the metaphorical flowers we can give him.

With all the comic news yesterday I feel like this got ignored. Larry Hama has been struggling with medical problems and, from what I’ve gathered, still really depends on gigs to survive financially. His ability to draw is being taken away. He’s a living legend and badass. Deserves better.

I’m sad to hear that Shelley Duvall has died. I was talking to someone only yesterday about how brilliant I think she is. I was spoiled for what photo of her to use because they all have something great in them. RIP

I think there are a lot of people who want "abuser" to be a specific category of calculating sociopath, because it absolves them of ever having to ask if their own uncalculated, instinctive behaviours are dangerous in the context of a power imbalance.

Milly Alcock has also been cast as James Gunn’s Supergirl in the meantime, which seems relevant. The Realm’s Delight and so forth.

It also casts an interesting light on the online discourse around the changing cast last season, which included a lot of praise for Alcock’s charisma and beauty, and much lamenting of her replacement as Rhaenyra by a 30-something queer actor who “just isn’t as likable.”

In House of the Dragon, I love how the Rhaenyra who appears in her predatory uncle-husband’s dreams is always the teenage version played by Milly Alcock. It tells you a few things about Daemon at once.

A political writer I’ve followed for nearly two decades has gone all in on “Biden must drop out for the good of America,” and it’s honestly unsettling to see. I haven’t always agreed with her, but I’ve long trusted her to be smart, sincere, and not a shill, and now I’m questioning which has changed.

“No, this isn’t just a manipulated media narrative! You can see with your own eyes that anyone would be better at winning this election than the only person who’s ever beaten the same opponent for the same office, which happened the last time there was an election! Any sane person would agree!”

In retrospect maybe part of why I never got into the Saw series is that I never got over Michael Emerson being the red herring in the first movie, when he should have been Jigsaw. No offense to Tobin Bell, also great. But I’ve watched years of Emerson as a nasty little freak, and it never gets old.

I never thought the same mainstream Democrats who’ve spent years yelling at leftists to ignore Biden’s problems and support him would then freak out and want to replace him as soon as it’s definitely too late to do that. I’ll wait till November to decide if the irony’s hilarious or infuriating.
