Does anyone else feel like they had to rebuild their wardrobe after it turned into all sweats/work clothes during COVID and if so how did you go about doing that?
Avatar
Oh yeeeeessss. I started by discarding all the things that I was avoiding wearing. That made it easier to see what I liked and then to fill in the gaps.
Avatar
Yes! I put everything I wasn’t reaching for regularly in a bin and put it away to kind of ease into it. When I didn’t miss items, I cleared them for good.

Would love you to talk publicly about the fact that COVID isn’t over and people should still be masking. It feels like immunocompromised/high risk/people who aren’t interested in getting COVID are left behind by all our political leaders in the media.
Avatar
fr i was about to say wym "during covid" 🙄

Earlier this year I had to attend a hearing on Capitol Hill for the first time in three years. With less than a week to go, I realized I hadn't checked whether my suits still fit. They didn't--I'd lost a bunch of weight during the pandemic. Just enough time to buy a gap-filler replacement.
Avatar
It still is during COVID, but I did get rid of uncomfortable “work” attire.

If you rolled up to the House wearing sweats rocking a big gulp that would get you another 3% in the bodega voter’s constituency
Avatar
I work remotely and still wear the COVID uniform 7 days a week. When I find out I’ve gotta leave the house for something, I spend two weeks researching something I think I’ll love forever and then buy it. Now I mostly own jumpsuits in varying levels of formality

I started transitioning during COVID, I'm going broke rebuilding a wardrobe lol
Avatar
I feel this. Rebuilding a wardrobe from scratch is so expensive! Especially when you need professional outfits and stuff. Sometimes local LGBTQ+ centers will have free closets for trans and non-binary folks.
Avatar
Yeah there's gonna be a trans clothing swap near me soon, hoping there will be some quality finds there!
Avatar
I'm going to start transitioning probably in the next few months, so Idk what I'm gonna do with my last wardrobe 😅
Avatar
Now that I'm travelling a bit for work again I'm back to my old method of underpacking and quick impulse buying it sounds bad but I've always found my favorite clothes this way in surprisingly good deals

This is literally what I am trying to figure out how to do today. I went to a party at the beach and realized I did not have any breezy beach hats to wear and looked like a GD NFL referee in a black baseball cap

I kept the elastic waist and softness and bought linen trousers, cropped pants, and soft tshirts in drapey fabrics.
Avatar
I now call jeans HARD pants!
Avatar
Avatar
Totally. Life's too short for hard pants.

Athleisure suiting. The worst of both worlds, but comfortable!
Avatar
It‘s still on my to do list. Just as soon as my waistline returns to pre-COVID circumferences. (Deny deny deny). Fortunately some kind souls on the internet normalised goblin mode so I‘ve been riding that wave. And by riding that wave I mean bobbing about like an untethered overinflated buoy.
Avatar
I just stopped wearing pants. 🤷🏼‍♂️ Also, it’s still during COVID.
Avatar
I just wear a bathrobe everywhere.
Avatar
im here to take notes.
Avatar
Transitioned during Covid, so I already needed to redo my entire wardrobe.
Avatar
Avatar
Avatar
I did, but my work clothes went from being suits and ties (casino management) to cyber security (whatever I want). I've kept the clothing that I no longer fit in with the goal of losing weight and coming back to it - I am almost there.

Imagine coming out as trans during the pandemic
Avatar
Insane situation. Went with a friend of mine clothes shopping last year bc they wanted to be more masc before planning top surgery. I was like "im lost too, bro. I wear wrestling tshirts"
Avatar
Reason #4,837 why you’re the most relatable politician. I just started buying athleisurewear cut to look like dress clothes
Avatar
I reduced my wardrobe quite a bit. I have ~ 3 suits (business formal), maybe 5-7 business casual sets. However, guys can get away with a less varied wardrobe than women usually can -- or, used to. I presume this is still a thing. https://www.huffpost.com/entry/tv-anchor-same-suit-sexism_n_6170900

Joining Bluesky feels like cleaning out and building up a new wardrobe.
Avatar
Yes, its part of my COVID reconnaissance: new cloth, new hobbies, new existential dread, new me!
Avatar
I still have to… but I don’t want to because I put on 20 lbs and it fills me with sad.
Avatar
The best part about it is you get to redefine your style. Like I used to go for it professional and button down slack stuff but now I just embrace the country boy style but make it gay. It's kind of fun to just redo it all.

A combination of ThredUp, thrift stores, and realizing that I am much happier when I prioritize physical comfort in my wardrobe. A life-changing tip I received: when you try it on, stand up / sit down 2x before even looking in the mirror. If anything feels weird, don't bother looking in the mirror.

I’ll tell you that online shopping is only the solution if you have a solid commitment to on-time returns.

All I know you is you're backing a Monster who has abandoned us to die of Covid.

and we're all gonna die in climate collapse.

Figuring out what my general aesthetic is has been super helpful. Descriptive terms like "cozy", "bookish", "butch" help narrow it down!
Avatar
I still haven’t worn jeans since possibly 2019 and you know what? I don’t miss them. Cozy life from here on out. I vote no on a closet rebuild. *gavel bang*

Nothing fit after I gained my vivid weight

The Sweats have taken over now, it is powerless to resist.

I work from home, so it’s still that.
