When I lived in Brum I called the cops to break a pub fight outside my apartment because one guy was getting the shite completely beat out of him. About 8 cops came. They just separated the victim and the assailant and sent them walking home in opposite directions. A1 policing. Would call again.

UK and European cops suck too, we just don't have as many people murdered by them (although that also still happens)

This may sound peripheral but you know what police spend 0% of time on: enforcing railway traffic rules, no need. Maybe we could save some money and police time by shifting away from car-based transit

Cops exist mainly to harass motorists and to document crimes for insurance companies.

Far be it for me to defend the cops, but was the sum total of activity of all police departments in question considered in any study in the article? There are two contrasting narratives here: 1. that police are helpful, and 2. police spend most of their time on worthless activity. which is more true

There's no way to collect data on every single police department ever from the entirety of their existence, but there is a large amount of data about police not helping stop crimes, being abusive, violent, sex offenders who murder indescriminately without due process across the country and years.

There's records, just not on -all- you dense knob.

Police are really for crowd control, which ranges from directing traffic to keeping people away from places, and even breaking up groups. They get a lot of training and practice doing this. Crime stuff is a "hobby" in comparison

Also city tried not doing so many traffic stops around where I’m at or any at all in case of Portland, it did not result in anything other than specifically more disabled and black pedestrians getting killed by cars.

lol. Well, we tried getting rid of traffic stops and it resulted in homeless, black, and disabled people getting killed by people who drive in greater numbers. And I know my state “defunded the police” and well people kept calling the cops so it just cost us more in overtime
