i've never understood why people have so many feelings about gifted classes. i really enjoyed it. my main complaint is that school should be more like that for everyone (smaller classes, more self-directed learning, teaching with games and puzzles, treating students with dignity).

i think people are too critical of the spread of "y'all." it's a useful word that fills an actual gap in the language. who cares if you're not from the south? but once i heard an australian say it, and i found that very challenging

people saying they read fiction for entertainment and therefore don't read complicated things is such an alien attitude to me. i'm not mad at it; that's basically my attitude towards television. but i find engaging with complexity to be the fun part of reading.

it's not "media illiteracy" when someone disagrees with you about the interpretation of a text. grow up. read some barthes. the text is infinite.

i understand why people are skeptical of the politics of fictional representation, but sometimes, when you have had to approach all fiction all your life from an alienated perspective, it's nice to read something that gets your whole deal

the theme for today's posts seem to be me getting annoyed at progressive people for not considering that people have feelings and life cannot be lived according to binary rules. "facts don't care about your feelings, but leftishly" is a bad way of being in the world.

i feel like if you are a white person, you shouldn't chastise a poc for being upset about open racists talking about doing racist things getting positions in government. yes, i agree that the subtle racists have been in power doing racist things, but people are not wrong to be scared about nazis.

i get frustrated with how people demand analysis and critique of the ways trans people use metaphors or abstract concepts to describe our experiences. people seem cool with other expressive but dubious conceptualizations (e.g. the brain as separate from the self). less trans rigor, more trans vibes!

Judging folks for not knowing the thing "everyone knew" in your whisper network is a great way to tell the people whose safety you don't care about that you also feel morally superior to them.

i don't think a "nice guy" persona is a sign of someone secretly being a bad person. men with "i'm a huge piece of shit" personas have done this shit. so have men with "i'm just a regular guy" and "i'm a serious thinker" and "i'm a huge mess but fun." personality is not really what is at issue here.
