That thing on Bandcamp where a record says £18 GBP and you think "hey that sounds like a reasonable number" and then click and it tells you that's $27 plus $23 shipping.

"Evolve" thoughts: Phish finally found their studio voice with the last two albums (plus GOTF), and unsurprisingly it's closer to Genesis and Yes than anything Dead/jam related. As with the live show it now weirdly feels like guitar is the band's weakest link...but I think Trey likes it that way?

I like some of their new songs but I really hate this one. They always had the children's music criticism but only because they sang about dogs, kings, etc. This song sounds like the worst kind of kitschy children's music & the "just knew the scope" line is so pandering and grating.
3. Evolve — I feel like this is what people that haven’t heard Phish but hate on them anyway imagine what Phish sounds like when they’re making fun of them. Gotta say I don’t love the strings on this. Not that Don Hart ain’t great, but it doesn’t need strings IMO. Saw this debuted in Nashville 2021.

Popeye was as canonical to my childhood as Star Wars or ET, and Shelley was a big part of it. And I moved on to Faerie Tale Theatre and then in adulthood her more grown-up stuff, but her presence was formative and now representative of a bygone time and place.
ah, what a loss. Just for her Altman films alone, she was one of the best

Two friends have backed out of Phish with me week. I guess it’s not that attractive to pay $100+ for mid-level seats at a venue where they haven’t played an S-tier show in 25 years, for the tour opening shows after an album release?

I’m tempted to go see Umphree McGee tonight because I’m bored, the kids are gone, and it’s a fine summer evening out with a beer. But I don’t know…I feel like I’d have seen them many times by now if they had a different name.

I love when songs switch from flowery language to a direct emotional statement. Example:in “Daniel” when Elton breaks the “clouds in my eyes” type of imagery to simply say “I miss Daniel, Lord I miss him so much.”

I don't agree with Trey on many things Phish related but we both agree that Split Open and Melt is the song we'd most like to see at a Phish show.
They say don't meet your heroes, but luckily I didn't listen. I spoke with Trey Anastasio (the guy from Phish!) for nearly two hours about his archive of songs for @vulture's ongoing Superlatives series. This was a dream come true. www.vulture.com/article/trey...

Tonight I will be seeing the band Goose for the 5th(!) time. Even though I was comped for 3 of those shows that still seems weird to me. (I also couldn't hum a single one of their songs off the top of my head)

Some reduce the 2024 campaign to a contest between two old men, but it's a choice of two slates of federal appointees who'll impact your life in a million ways. Biden has staffed executive agencies with excellent choices who are doing good work. Trump will empower an army of Stephen Millers.
Under current law, you really couldn’t do much better than Biden’s FTC and NRLB. New Deal shit.
