[food science, medical diet] One thing I'm particularly interested in Is how a low histamine diet may affect these FFAR receptors Especially if someone is also dealing with dysbiosis/problems with their gut microbiome

[food science] Researchers are still learning about the nitty gritty details of how these free fatty acid receptors (FFARs) work But they seem to be particularly linked to ✅ Metabolism ✅ Immune function (Among other things, like FFARs can also affect skeletal muscles and cardiac cells)

If you get covid, test every day after you test negative to catch the rebound. I was neg for days then got a whisper of a pos line. I started avoiding people, and in 18 hours I got sick and turned big positive. Everyone I know who got this variant has rebounded from 3 to 11 days afterwards.

Did you know: Doherty's cancer became so intractable because she temporarily lost access to her healthcare? A television star. Our country's healthcare and insurance system is broken. While huge donations to JHU are great, we need structural change as well, and for that we need political will.
I meant to say this a few days ago but my brain is glitchy. So, when the news broke about Shannen Doherty, I went over to the other site because it's still easier to confirm things like that there. First thing I saw was a fan saying with heart eyes: Now, Brenda and Dylan are together forever.

Heat intolerance is a long covid symptom & side effect of many meds, from blood pressure to mental health meds… which are common post-covid needs. The rise of fascism during climate collapse & a covid surge is a real bad time to spread illness & disability. Wear an n95 in public. Resources in 🧵

One of these days I'm going to write a blog post on help and care, and the number one thing I'm going to highlight for people who haven't needed care before is: "Let me know if you need anything! / Just ask if you need help with anything!" (or similar) is always, always, worthless.
I have said to so many people and so few have heard me, or at least acted on it, that the reason this tumor did so well is it 1st thing took out my ability to seek care. I still can't. I need care offered but people kept saying they loved me and I should poke them if I needed anything. I can't.

7 is why there are times I haven’t stood up even though I can. Encounters range from embarrassing to frustrating to outright dangerous. Yes, dangerous. I was followed and had things thrown at me for using an accessible parking spot. Almost every ambulatory chair user I know has a story like that.
6. Because of constant pressure not to use a wheelchair, people with gradual deterioration put it off for months or years, which makes them more disabled. This can destroy lives. 7. There's a clear path from cries of, "It's a miracle!" when someone stands, to pushing us in front of a car. 3/

A few years ago New York City was reclassified as “humid subtropical” thanks to climate change so it’s as if you were in North Carolina back then and were trying to make do without AC there.
Mayor Eric Adams, asked by a reporter about the lack of air conditioning at migrant shelters during a heat wave, says, "Every day New Yorkers don't have air conditioners. We make do." He recommends paper fans and says his mom told him to put his head in the refrigerator. —Emma G. Fitzsimmons, NYT

Also, I'm a renter in LA County -- humidity isn't a problem, but heat is. There are tons of smart ways to build houses and do landscaping that can reduce dependence on ACs. But they're not options for renters! Some people live in buildings that make the increasing heat even worse.

yes! and if people live in mobile homes it can be even worse. I wrote about how landlords can prevent people from installing shade sails or even window AC units in my newsletter the other week -> www.talkingclimate.ca/p/heat-can-k...

Update: 1mg of this stuff has lowered my BP in a bad way. Nearly hit the deck in this morning’s shower. 80/49. I find it SO frustrating that so many meds prescribed to improve #POTS also lower your BP. I have POTS and also #OH and chronically low BP; where are the meds for me??
ANYWAY, anyone with #dysautonomia #POTS have experience with #guanfacine for temp regulation issues? Just got prescribed 1mg nightly before bed and would love to hear how it’s gone for you! #NEISvoid

PS here's a related thread if (like me) You sometimes wonder "what signals tell the body and immune system to stop freaking the frell out" (Note: this is a huge topic obviously, this thread just covers one tiny piece) bsky.app/profile/unto...
[nutrition science] a thing I have been thinking about a lot: healing injuries (and connective tissue) takes more energy than "baseline" healing injuries also makes it harder to fight or flight so how do our bodies decide it's "safe" to repair an injury? #NEISvoid

If your autonomic nervous system is sending a lot of fight or flight responses (aka an overactive sympathetic nervous system) Then this can affect digestion in lots of ways, meaning maybe your body won't absorb nutrients very well

If you want access to free books, please get a library card. In the US, the more people there are with library cards, the more funding libraries have access to. Libraries provide more than books. They are a community resource. As an author and reader, I support libraries! #books #libraries

I don’t like to be indirect. So I’m telling you that I have active cancer and the health care workers refuse to mask. So for the fourth time in a cow I have come home SICK from CHEMOTHERAPY. You can’t tell by looking who is sick. It feels like I’m paying them to kill me. Please wear a mask.

If you want some hope and a dose of excellent queer history, I recommend the newest season of the podcast Slow Burn, Gays Against Briggs. It tells the story of how queer activists successfully fought an initiative to ban gay teachers in California, and it has lots of great interviews

Public librarian here. Please do what you can to help keep these fuckers away from power. 📚
Psst: Project 2025 is terrifying for a lot of reasons but also because on page 5 it calls for teachers and librarians who grant access to books that are maligned as pornography (which just means anything LGBTQ) to be registered as sex offenders. Pass it on.

they called like two pharmacies, and gave up. CVS now makes you leave a voicemail when you call. My voice is beginning to go because, again, I HAVE COVID. I am so goddamn upset. Can someone please call pharmacies in the twin cities to see which ones fucking have it in stock?
My pharmacy: "Sorry we don't have Paxlovid here. Do you have another pharmacy you prefer?" Me: "Any of them that have it in the metro? I just need the meds; I don't care where." The pharmacist: *long heavy sigh* Like bro I don't have access to whether or not a pharmacy has it!

The belief that something bad must have happened in another person's life for them to exhibit racism, sexism, homophobia, ableism, etc. is a distancing mechanism from the reality that these behaviors are baked into "normal." Some expressions might be more extreme, but we all swim in this stuff.
