I've been trying to sort through some old external hard drives I had in storage and one big challenge is even finding the right cables and in some cases trying to find an old laptop with the right firewire connector or whatever. (This is *not* a request for advice, just an observation.)

How's your stash of weird mid-00s power bricks with the big circular connector with several pins inside?

oh yeah, i have a bunch. those are usually for external full-size hard drives, so they need both 5v and 12v hence the split wiring

By the time you are 40 you should have two shoeboxes full of cables that you don’t own the equipment for; three dozen pens from your last two jobs and a handful of dead batteries that you can’t figure out how you are supposed to dispose of.

I recently reorganized my random cables into three piles: power bricks, USB cables, and misc. Somehow it now takes up 3x the space. BUT I CANT GET RID OF ANY OF THEM, I MIGHT NEED THEM

I just recycled a half dozen OEM cables and gave away 3 nice quality, NIB, Griffin braided dock cables on our local buy nothing.

Was trying last weekend to connect a laptop to a wall-mounted TV at a community center, so we could display a slideshow on the big screen. It might have been the first flat-screen ever produced, needing cables I haven't seen in decades. And I'm still sort of shocked I didn't have one.

I have a couple longer than that. When we have neighborhood meetings etc and I have to attach to projectors, etc. Also the cables from the server rack to all the screens, I ordered them before I knew what the distance was going to be (more like 10 feet) so there are some overly long ones.

4-6’ – 2.5mm to 3.5mm audio? 2-channel or with controls. Half kidding. I’ve been using an external mic so people can’t hear me drinking or eating. Windows + Teams is now forcing my headphones into headset mode causing loss of audio and getting me *this* close to rage quitting.
