I guess we'll see, but why would anyone think this Supreme Court would uphold Trump's 34 felony convictions? The former president's lawyers argue those convictions are based, in part, on testimony about a White House meeting. Are we to think that's not good enough for Sam Alito?

I will defer to the experts, I suppose, but even before yesterday's ruling I was skeptical that SCOTUS wouldn't find a way to intervene. For reference, they weren't even supposed to take up Trump's immunity appeal, if you're going by historical precedent and a plain reading of the U.S. Constitution.

if the court follows normal crim law, will depend on how the mass of the court looks at it under harmless error analysis. the main hook provided by yesterday’s decision will be evidentiary rulings - to allow evidence from trump’s time in office. Not typically fatal to conviction

But after yesterday, my guess is they’re probably going to seize the chance and will craft a whole new evidentiary standard for their special boy

I think a lot of this depends on whether he wins this fall, as with so much else. If he loses, they'd have to issue another ruling seriously expanding the scope of their already insane ruling. I think they'll consider the political cost at that time to not outweigh the benefit if T loses

Norm Eisen spoke a bit to this last night, although to your point the real question here is “how far will Trumps lackeys on SCOTUS go,” not what NY state courts will do. x.com/normeisen/st...

Yeah, I'm hoping he's right and I'm wrong, again -- we must fight the doomer inside us all -- but I have my doubts that a SCOTUS that just legalized executive criminality won't find a way to take this up on appeal.

In the near term at least it seems likely safe from derailment, which Trump is ofc trying, according to Eisen, but I’m also not a lawyer 🤷🏻‍♂️. I do take heart in the fact that NY state judges have been way less interested in entraining Trumps bullshit tho.

My guess is that it depends on whether he wins the election or not. If he loses, they're almost certainly going to throw him on the trash heap and wait til their next leader emerges from the ether; if he wins, he will be forever immune from everything.
