My first thought was Zack Snyder is going to completely misunderstand it into an adaptation the most annoying people on the internet are going to champion for the next 15 years. 🙃
Mass Effect, and if you HAVE to have it be about Shepherd, obviously FemShep is canon.
But something like the First Contact war when we pop out of the Charon mass relay and meet the Turians would be awesome.
Too messy. You can't center it during any of the events of the three games, because so much of that story spooled out based upon player choices (like, far more than any other game). But if you make a prequel, then most of what makes "Mass Effect" won't be featured.
there's actually so much you can work with in the half-life universe. you've got some conspiracy shit with the gman, got you some alien invasion stuff, some illicit science with aperture science, what is even the borealis about?!
could be fun, but would have to be done right.
I’ve considered putting together a TTRPG campaign based on the HL universe, but the trick is figuring out how to make it a group based story and keeping off the railroad tracks.
Keeping games off of railroad tracks generally means not building any tracks. HL has a ton of potential for stories about more than one character at a time.
It’s on the list. Right now I’m running a Twilight 2000 campaign that has a weird horror / SF conspiracy behind the main campaign (party just discovered this last night)
But as a procedural drama, a la X-Files.
All of the non-verbal story telling in that game conveyed a beautifully bland and bureaucratic way of dealing with the bonkers extraordinary.
Not many! In fact, pretty sure BTS stuff like the art book and mini-docs talk about how they just copy-pasted the idea of the Nostromo. The threat is "necroMORPHS", and they're basically zombies instead of alien lifeforms (at first). Then they blended in submarine aesthetics.
To your point, I’ve seen them talk mostly about Resident Evil in Space and Event Horizon. In which case, I still think they should be allowed to make a movie of it…
Uh ... both of those movies did badly though.
My point is that Dead Space itself is already an "adaption" of a movie into a videogame, and you're talking about adapting that videogame back into a movie / TV show ... what is the compelling new hook there?
Alien: Romulus is coming, anyway.
