Cover Versions That Charted Higher Than The Original AND Were Sung By A Singer of A Different Gender Than The Singer On The Original Version
- "Hazy Shade of Winter"(Simon & Garfunkel/The Bangles)
- "Nothing Compares 2 U" (The Family/Sinéad O'Connor)
- ???
Did either version ever chart? I assume Cowboy Junkies are the cover here but I don’t think it made the Hot 100 only like the Modern Rock chart or whatever.
And I guess we can't count the Pointer Sisters "Fire" and Patti Smith's "Because The Night," cos Bruce hadn't actually released them, but we can count Elvis's "Hound Dog" while written by Lieber & Stoller, was originally recorded by Big Mama Thornton.
BUT, the 10,000 Maniacs version of "Because the Night" was the highest charting of all (which I know is weird because it's a live acoustic version from that band of all bands but hey, somehow it works).
So same gender as Patti but higher than Bruce!
was going to jokingly use "He's So Fine" and "My Sweet Lord" but they both were No. 1 for 4 weeks so the latter copied the former on the charts as well
