In what is certainly a first for my freshman football coaching career, out of 62 kids on the team, I have 8(!) who want to be kickers. 17 2 87
Don’t children want brain trauma anymore? 1 6
My generation was raised on the playground thunderdome of geodesic monkey bars
Yes OBVIOUSLY we broke our arms. Builds character 1 2
(they were not plastic over backyard, they were steel over asphalt) 2
Why wouldn't you want to be a kicker? I wanted to be one, but I was a girl in the 80s so was prohibited from even trying out in my small school. I could punt farther than the kid who ended up with the spot (which may say more about the lack of boys vying for the spot than my talent). C'est la vie. 1 5
Finally a multi-punter formation 1 4
I think there might be some fame skewing the results here but maybe Gen Z just thinks kickers are cool now? 1 2
A lot less CTE risk. Especially if you let some other kid handle kickoffs.
I bet 90% of that is having a great role model as a coach, and the other 10% is knowing just how good it feels to kick the living shit out of a ball. 2
Just show them a video of the Double Doink they’ll want to be linebackers or quarterbacks in no time! 2
When our 8th grade coach was trying to find our best kicker I tried a kick off and he looks at me and said “well, turd, if we ever need an on-side kick I know to put in” 1
Best job on the team really. You get to sit around for most of the game, almost never get hit, collect money. 1 1
Just gotta be perfect every time 1 5
But that's easy, right? RIGHT!?
