Fun with linguistics: A calque is a word or phrase from one language translated literally into another language. A loanword is a word or phrase from one language adopted in its original form into another language. “Calque” is a loanword while “loanword” is a calque.

It should be illegal to advertise a gas station at the next exit but not tell me how far from the highway that gas station is until after I’ve already pulled off.
