New from Abby Desmond and me in Aeon! Our original title was ‘Intelligence is not a thing’. Because where you see intelligence depends on who you are, what you know. It’s fine for humans - it’s our thing - but for animals/AI we need to be better at asking what success really means for them 🧪🪶🐝🦊🕷️🐬🏺
Why ‘intelligence’ exists only in the eye of the beholder | Aeon Essaysaeon.co Our human minds hold us back from truly understanding the many brilliant ways that other creatures solve their problems

Also, all you gotta do is wear some Realtree camo and face paint and a hat with leaves and branches affixed to it. Then wear this backpack. Boom, awesome tree costume with a unique twist

Why can I kill a plant by overwatering, but can grow a cutting of that plant in 100% water. Does it have to do with concentrations of solutions and transfer across cell walls?

You can also upload a recording to iNaturalist. But it’s hard to isolate an individual frog species (at least in summer here in the south!)

They are awesome flyers and bug catchers. Watched a pair this weekend taking turns feeding their 4 hatchlings by bug hunting all day in the neighboring meadow.

Same here. One juvy mockingbird likes to drive off all comers, then the woodpeckers and thrashers move him off.

Are there other professional US sports teams named after an endangered species, or just the Florida Panthers in the NHL? (and Go Panthers) 🌿🌎

Not the best video title. But a great little burst of optimism from these two little dudes out enjoying wildlife and just being little dudes. 🌿🌎
