So I want to talk about this from the perspective of someone who does professional fact checking as part of my work. For some years now I have been paid to check TV and written content themed around animals to make sure it is factually accurate. Chat GPT & AI has made that job so much harder.

Wasn’t going to wade into discourse on here again yet but let me just say, the jokes and threats (or whatever they are) from U.S. folks of relative privilege about leaving the country give away a lot of how people locate themselves, or rather don’t, in relation to neighbors and community.

My timeline here is full of astronomers, physicists and scientists in general all speaking up against the global damage another Trump presidency would do. I hope many listen to them.

In many of my chats with friends I've sort of said this SCOTUS ruling would fall like this. Next up lower courts will sort through what are constitutionally defined presidential acts. Trump will (unless elected) have to still stand trial for his j6 acts.

If the lower court understood the present moment, this would be its response: "The court is surprised this needs to be said, but anything related to a coup attempt is not an official act. That includes all of the conduct in the indictment. Trial begins September 1st."

Opinion basically comes down to "official actions are immune, unofficial aren't" and the court says that since lower courts have not made a determination on that question, they need to go do that. Beyond me to determine how feasible that is, but absolutely delays the trial.

As mutch as I follow all things sci fi, I've somehow completely missed Beacon 23. Looks like a decent show. We'll be digging into that, HoD, and SnowPiercer S4 this month.

I'll finally have the expansions with MA 2nd edition so we'll be throwing even more hours at the game. Pretty hyped.

Also there was a presidential debate last night. Nothing has changed for me. I'm voting straight Democrat. What? He's a 90yo feeble old guy? Cool. I'll take him and everyone around him, flaws and all, over the alternative who has and will continue to directly harm literally everyone in the country.
